HONORING THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK IN LONG ISLAND, NY
FEATURED CABARET ORGANIZATION EVENT

Artists in Partnership (AIP), a non-profit cultural arts organization, will host its 14th Annual Cabaret Festival on May 19th through 22nd at the LONG BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY (111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY). The festival will be a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the Great American Songbook. All performances are FREE to the public.

THURSDAY, MAY 19th, 2 PM, "THE WORLD OF CABARET"
Susan James explores the world of cabaret presenting videos of contemporary, Broadway, movie, and novelty material. The various approaches to the same song by different artists will be discussed.

Aspiring singers Olivia DiResta, Anna Falvey, Mikayla Faria, and Max Tunney perform in a master class workshop with musical director Tedd Firth and cabaret critic Rob Lester

Established artists demonstrate and comment on the cabaret genre. Susan James hosts the discussion with Rob Lester and artists Kristoffer Lowe, Marissa Mulder, Stacy Sullivan, and Jon Weber as they perform original songs and classics of the genre.

FEATURED CABARET ORGANIZATION EVENT

The 12th Annual, 2016 Provincetown Jazz Festival (ProvincetownJazzFestival.org ) will be held in two venues this year. The first event, on August 11th at 7:00 pm at THE CROWN & ANCHOR (247 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA - 508-487-1430 - https://onlyatthecrown.com ) with the second event held on August 15th, with performances at 7:00pm & 9:00 pm at the THE COTUIT CENTER FOR THE ARTS (4404 Route 28 - Falmouth Road - Cotuit, MA - 508-428-0669 - http://www.ArtsOnTheCape.org ). For 11 years the Provincetown Jazz Festival has presented jazz musicians from the United States, Canada, South America, United Kingdom, Europe, and New Zealand. This year they will feature four jazz musicians making their Provincetown Jazz Festival debut:

Billy Stritch sings the Mel Tormé Songbook, a tribute to one of the legendary jazz singers of all time and features some his greatest arrangements. Billy is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scene and accompanies & arranges for Liza Minnelli, Linda Lavin, Marilyn Maye, and many others. He will be accompanied by Ron Ormsby on bass and Bart Weisman on drums.

Evan Christopher, who has created a highly personal brand of "contemporary early-jazz" that strives to extend the legacy of the New Orleans clarinet style. Charismatic and versatile, Christopher was drawn to New Orleans from his native California in 1994 by the rich musical landscape in the birthplace of Jazz. He tours extensively in the United States and Europe and has performed at the Newport Jazz Festival. Appearing with Evan will be Fred Boyle on piano, Nicki Parrott on bass and Bart Weisman on drums.

Nicki Parrott, a world renowned double bassist & jazz vocalist and was voted by Japan's Swing Journal to be the Best Jazz Vocalist in 2007 & 2008. Born in Australia, Nicki relocated to New York and was bassist & vocalist for the legendary Les Paul for over 10 years. She performs regularly at most of the world's top jazz festivals and venues.

Scott Avidon, a jazz sax player, composer and educator from New Jersey, accompanied by Fabiano de Castro from Brazil on piano, Ron Ormsby on bass and Bart Weisman on drums.

NYC: CABARET CARES GALA HONORS BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS WITH THE SPIRIT AWARD - MAY 15th
FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT

On May 15th, at their annual fundraising gala, Cabaret Cares/ Help Is On The Way Today will honor BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS (http://www.bcefa.org/ ), the organization that was Macchia's inspiration. The event will be held this year at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, May 15th. The evening starts with a cocktail hour at 5:30 pm, and includes dinner, an auction and a show. Macchia will present Broadway Cares/EFA with the Spirit Award, designated for an individual or organization who has shown unusual support of Help Is On The Way Today throughout the previous year. A second Spirit Award will be given to Frank Dain, Editor of Cabaret Scenes Magazine. The 2016 Cabaret Cares Ruth Kurtzman Lifetime Achievement Award honoree is Alyce Finell, director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation. This year's fundraising gala is a Black and White Masquerade Gala. Guests are asked to wear formal or cocktail attire and naturally, a mask. MAC Award Winner Tom Gamblin returns to host the event and MAC and Bistro Award winner Gretchen Reinhagen directs. The award winning Musical Director, Tracy Stark, returns as well. Performers from cabaret and Broadway will take part. Solo performers include: Dave August (composer of the charity's new theme song "Help Is On The Way Today"), Josephine Bianco, Samara Ehrlich, Marla Green, Jeff Harnar, Michael Langoria, Gary Lizardo, Lesli Margherita, Sue Matsuki, Doreen Montalvo, Sidney Myer, Gretchen Reinhagen, Tracy Stark, Stacy Sullivan and Dorian Woodruff. Duets by Barbara Fasano & Eric Comstock, Tom Gamblin & Susan Winter, Ricky Ritzel & Alison Nusbaum and Jay Rogers & Aaron Morishita will be featured. It has been 10 years since award-winning producer, Joseph Macchia, founded the 501c3 non-profit, Help Is On The Way Today. Then, as a volunteer for Broadway Cares/EFA, he was encouraged by that iconic organization to establish a charity to focus on the under-served demographic of children and youth with HIV and AIDS. Since then, Macchia's fundraising entertainment series, Cabaret Cares, has raised over $100,000 for Help Is On The Way Today, which has assisted over 650 young people living with HIV/AIDS. NYC: THE SIXTH ANNUAL "NIGHT OF A THOUSAND JUDYS" AT MERKIN CONCERT HALL- JUNE 6th

The sixth annual "Night Of A Thousand Judys" the Pride concert to benefit The Ali Forney Center presented by The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre, will take place at the MERKIN CONCERT HALL at the KAUFMAN CENTER (129 West 67th Street, NYC - 212-501-3330) on Monday, June 6th. "Night Of A Thousand Judys" will honor the iconic Judy Garland with special skits, tributes and songs from her legendary career as movie star, recording artist and stage performer. There will be a pre-show VIP reception at 6:30 pm and the performance at 8:00 pm. The evening is written and hosted by Justin Sayre and directed by Peter James Cook. Lance Horne serves as the event's music supervisor. "Night Of A Thousand Judys" is produced by Dan Fortune and Adam J. Rosen, with Dan Fortune serving as executive producer. Special guests will be announced. "Night Of A Thousand Judys" is a special presentation of The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre, the acclaimed comedy/ variety show known for a signature blend of outrageous comedy, politics, culture and everything in between. The Meeting* is currently enjoying a successful monthly run at Joe's Pub, which hosted the first "Night of a Thousand Judys" in 2011. The Ali Forney Center is the nation's largest and most comprehensive organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth. She continues this tradition with her brand new show "Unwritten, Celebrating 21st Century Female Singer-Songwriters." The program reflects the voices of women in their early 20's as well as those in their 60's, and every decade in between, opening a window to the hearts and minds of contemporary women. Lucille is the recipient of the prestigious Hanson Award, presented each year to one individual by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. Lucille performed for a number of years in the regional productions of the New Jersey-based Entertainers Theater before developing her first cabaret act. Since her Don't Tell Mama debut in 1999, she has presented nine different one-woman shows at clubs in New York City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, including Mama Rose's, The Encore, Helen's, Odette's, The Stockton Inn, and Bob Egan's Cabaret Supper Club. Barbara Bleier And Austin Pendleton present 'Late Nights In Smoky Bars' at PANGEA (178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) on Wednesdays, May 11th & 25th at 7:00 pm. The show is an exploration of the relationship of two old friends, in story and song, who meet up in bars through the years. Barbara And Austin have known one another in many roles through several decades, and have shared much of their past and current lives with one another, usually over drinks at a bar. Through an interesting selection of known and unpublished musical material, the relationship gets described and acted out in the present and past, one night at a bar, as it becomes increasingly clear to them, and to the audience. Austin Pendleton is an actor, director, playwright and teacher of acting. He has appeared frequently on, off and off-off Broadway. (His first Broadway appearance was as Motel the Tailor in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Jerome Robbins, and starring Zero Mostel.) He can be seen in approximately 200 films. He has appeared regularly on TV on such shows as Oz, Homicide, Law and order and Billions. He curently also teaches acting in New York at HB Studio, where he studied with Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof. He also studied acting with Robert Lewis. Barbara Bleier is a singer, actor and playwright who has appeared in solo shows and revues in national and international cabaret, as well as appearing on stage, in film, and on TV. The mother of a psychopathic killer in the cult classic, SWOON, she appeared most recently in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU, with Jane Fonda and Tina Fey, and in THEY CAME TOGETHER, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. She just completed a cabaret engagement in Los Angeles, at the Gardenia. Her solo show, WHO'S YOUR MAMA? was selected for production in the NYC Women at Work Festival, and her two-person revue with Austin Pendleton received critical praise in New York and Chicago. She has studied acting with Austin Pendleton, singing with Barbara Maier, and musical performance with Julie Wilson at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. Legendary Theatre District nightspot DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) has announced the second annual "Mama's Next BIG Act!", a bigger than average, 11-week competition that mixes styles and genres. Beginning Tuesday, June 7th at 7:30 pm, and running on Tuesdays for 11 weeks, through August 30th!! (No contest on June 14th and July 5th). Voted by the audience and a cavalcade of celebrity judges, the contest is open to solo, duo and group acts in the following categories: music, drag, burlesque, and variety. The winner receives a $1,500.00 stipend to put towards a NEW show at DON'T TELL MAMA, to be presented in January or February of 2017, AND a HAMILTON BEACH BLENDER! Plus other surprises! Mama's Next BIG Act! is open to any musical act over the age of 18. Musical acts may consist of solo, duo or groups, and may be of any genre or style. Acts may use our pianist or bring their own. A guitar or bass may also be used. Tracks may be used, but live music is preferred. Vocal Groups, Drag Artists, Variety and Burlesque acts are encouraged to submit, as well as Solo and Duo Vocal Acts.

NYC: TOSHI CAPPUCCINO'S SOLO MUSICAL SUPER LATE BLOOMER

TKO Entertainment, Inc. and WAHAHA-Hompo proudly present Toshi Cappuccino's solo musical Super Late Bloomer / Taiki Cho Bansei at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Saturday & Sunday, May 7th & 8th at 4:00 pm. The show is based on his 2015 autobiographical stand up show 'The Grasshopper Wins'. Toshi's life story as a comic reversal of Aesop's fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant, that show was a hit with audiences, inspiring requests for a musical version. Combining newly-written songs, favorite originals and some covers, this new show tells the story of Toshi's life as a gay boy growing up in southern Japan, his early career as a nightclub entertainer, later adventures adapting to life in bizarre new countries and final triumph as a "Super Late Bloomer" in the garden of New York City. Toshi Cappuccino has appeared at the Duplex 28 times since March 2013. His performances there have consistently sold out. This new musical is an ambitious departure for him. Super Late Bloomer is written, produced, directed and performed by Toshi Cappuccino. A native of Hakata, he is an entertainer, critic, producer, TV personality, and a voter for the New York Drama Desk Awards. Toshi is also member of WAHAHA-Hompo, one of Japan's biggest comedy troupes. There is a $35 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Lucille Carr-Kaffashan's last two cabaret outings were critically acclaimed shows that celebrated the work of the Beatles and of 1970's female singer-songwriters. She continues this tradition with her brand new show "Unwritten, Celebrating 21st Century Female Singer-Songwriters." With musical director Jeff Cubeta on piano and back-up vocals, Sean Harkness on guitar, and Matt Scharfglass on bass, Lucille will perform Unwritten on Saturday, May 7th at 3:00 pm; on Thursday, May 19th at 7:00 pm; and on Friday, May 20th at 7:00 pm. With direction by David Hilder, this show features a diverse collection of 21st century songs written by outstanding artists such as Adele, Annie Lennox, Sara Bareilles, Susan Werner, Meghan Trainor and Tracy Chapman. The program reflects the voices of women in their early 20's as well as those in their 60's, and every decade in between, opening a window to the hearts and minds of contemporary women. Lucille is the recipient of the prestigious Hanson Award, presented each year to one individual by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. Lucille performed for a number of years in the regional productions of the New Jersey-based Entertainers Theater before developing her first cabaret act. Since her Don't Tell Mama debut in 1999, she has presented nine different one-woman shows at clubs in New York City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, including Mama Rose's, The Encore, Helen's, Odette's, The Stockton Inn, and Bob Egan's Cabaret Supper Club. French jazz singer and songwriter Oriana will take the stage at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) on Saturday, May 7th, at at 10:30 pm as part of the club's Late Night Jazz Series. Oriana will relate the journey of her musical life, singing songs from her native France (Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens) and also from her childhood, having been influenced by her Italian, Spanish and German roots. Adding some timeless American jazz standards and originals from her up coming album, she will tell you her emotional journey with her delicate voice and impressive range, interspersed with her charming violin and piano playing. Trained as a classical violinist, pianist and opera singer in the finest conservatoires in France, Oriana has now performed in most renowned venues in the UK and abroad, from the Royal Albert Hall in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. New York's favorite cabaret room, THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), celebrates its 10th Anniversary on Monday May 9th at 9:00 pm with a special party! Taking part will be a distinctive cross-section of talents who will strive to encapsulate the club's diversity of musical styles, persuasions, genres and generations. The night's headliners include: Corinna Sowers Adler, Dorothy Bishop, Jim Brochu & Steve Schalchin, Yvonne Constant, JayCee Driesen, Tom Gamblin, Richard Holbrook, Tanya Holt, 2015 MetroStar Minda Larsen, Liz McKendry, Maxine Linehan, Bettina May & Grace Gotham, Ed Sarfaty, Lennie Watts, and Kelly Wright. The music director is Yasuhiko Fukuoka. The Metropolitan Room will also honor the club's original owners and leading lights, Christopher and Steven Mazzilli, who opened The Metropolitan Room in May of 2006 when they moved their Gotham Comedy Club from 22nd Street to its current location on West 23rd Street. With Lennie Watts as the original talent booker ,the Mazzillis presented a number of major acts, including Marilyn Maye and Barb Jungr, who many credit with reinvigorating New York's cabaret world in the past decade. Among many others, the Metropolitan Room introduced and launched the cabaret careers of numerous performers who are now the leading edge of the business, such as Lauren Fox, Carole J. Bufford, Marissa Mulder, T. Oliver Reid, Aaron Weinstein, Jennifer Sheehan, Maxine Linehan, and Gabrielle Stravelli (to name a few).  The club also has introduced singers from different cities or parts of the business such as Mira Awad, Jon Weber, Sharon Clarke, and Tom Wopat. It has also been the home of cabaret legends such as Baby Jane Dexter, and the late and much missed Julie Wilson. Hosting the evening will be The Metropolitan Room's current owner Bernie Furshpan. Artists in Partnership (AIP), a non-profit cultural arts organization, will host its 14th Annual Cabaret Festival on May 19th through 22nd at the LONG BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY (111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY). The festival will be a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the Great American Songbook. All performances are FREE to the public.

Susan James explores the world of cabaret presenting videos of contemporary, Broadway, movie, and novelty material. The various approaches to the same song by different artists will be discussed.

On May 15th, at their annual fundraising gala, Cabaret Cares/ Help Is On The Way Today will honor BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS (http://www.bcefa.org/ ), the organization that was Macchia's inspiration. The event will be held this year at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, May 15th. The evening starts with a cocktail hour at 5:30 pm, and includes dinner, an auction and a show. Macchia will present Broadway Cares/EFA with the Spirit Award, designated for an individual or organization who has shown unusual support of Help Is On The Way Today throughout the previous year. A second Spirit Award will be given to Frank Dain, Editor of Cabaret Scenes Magazine. The 2016 Cabaret Cares Ruth Kurtzman Lifetime Achievement Award honoree is Alyce Finell, director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation. This year's fundraising gala is a Black and White Masquerade Gala. Guests are asked to wear formal or cocktail attire and naturally, a mask. MAC Award Winner Tom Gamblin returns to host the event and MAC and Bistro Award winner Gretchen Reinhagen directs. The award winning Musical Director, Tracy Stark, returns as well. Performers from cabaret and Broadway will take part. Solo performers include: Dave August (composer of the charity's new theme song "Help Is On The Way Today"), Josephine Bianco, Samara Ehrlich, Marla Green, Jeff Harnar, Michael Langoria, Gary Lizardo, Lesli Margherita, Sue Matsuki, Doreen Montalvo, Sidney Myer, Gretchen Reinhagen, Tracy Stark, Stacy Sullivan and Dorian Woodruff. Duets by Barbara Fasano & Eric Comstock, Tom Gamblin & Susan Winter, Ricky Ritzel & Alison Nusbaum and Jay Rogers & Aaron Morishita will be featured. It has been 10 years since award-winning producer, Joseph Macchia, founded the 501c3 non-profit, Help Is On The Way Today. Then, as a volunteer for Broadway Cares/EFA, he was encouraged by that iconic organization to establish a charity to focus on the under-served demographic of children and youth with HIV and AIDS. Since then, Macchia's fundraising entertainment series, Cabaret Cares, has raised over $100,000 for Help Is On The Way Today, which has assisted over 650 young people living with HIV/AIDS. Dexter again teams up with her long-time musical director Ross Patterson. This year's MAC Lifetime Achievement Award winner dedicated her show "It's Personal!" to her personal friend Julie Wilson. The show and CD features compelling and profound songs from legends Cy Coleman, Peggy Lee and Cole Porters, to John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney, to Felix Cavalierre, Billy Roy and not a few surprises. The recipient of seven major MAC Awards and two Back Stage Bistro Awards, Dexter has performed at an endless array of major venues throughout the country, including Reno Sweeney, The Ballroom, Eighty Eight's, Blues Alley, The Kennedy Center and Weill Recital Hall. Barbara Bleier And Austin Pendleton present 'Late Nights In Smoky Bars' at PANGEA (178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) on Wednesdays, May 11th & 25th at 7:00 pm. The show is an exploration of the relationship of two old friends, in story and song, who meet up in bars through the years. Barbara And Austin have known one another in many roles through several decades, and have shared much of their past and current lives with one another, usually over drinks at a bar. Through an interesting selection of known and unpublished musical material, the relationship gets described and acted out in the present and past, one night at a bar, as it becomes increasingly clear to them, and to the audience. Austin Pendleton is an actor, director, playwright and teacher of acting. He has appeared frequently on, off and off-off Broadway. (His first Broadway appearance was as Motel the Tailor in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Jerome Robbins, and starring Zero Mostel.) He can be seen in approximately 200 films. He has appeared regularly on TV on such shows as Oz, Homicide, Law and order and Billions. He curently also teaches acting in New York at HB Studio, where he studied with Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof. He also studied acting with Robert Lewis. Barbara Bleier is a singer, actor and playwright who has appeared in solo shows and revues in national and international cabaret, as well as appearing on stage, in film, and on TV. The mother of a psychopathic killer in the cult classic, SWOON, she appeared most recently in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU, with Jane Fonda and Tina Fey, and in THEY CAME TOGETHER, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. She just completed a cabaret engagement in Los Angeles, at the Gardenia. Her solo show, WHO'S YOUR MAMA? was selected for production in the NYC Women at Work Festival, and her two-person revue with Austin Pendleton received critical praise in New York and Chicago. She has studied acting with Austin Pendleton, singing with Barbara Maier, and musical performance with Julie Wilson at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. This May, Lucille brings her love for songwriting artists to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788), New York City's legendary cabaret theater and piano bar. Lucille Carr-Kaffashan's last two cabaret outings were critically acclaimed shows that celebrated the work of the Beatles and of 1970's female singer-songwriters. She continues this tradition with her brand new show "Unwritten, Celebrating 21st Century Female Singer-Songwriters." With musical director Jeff Cubeta on piano and back-up vocals, Sean Harkness on guitar, and Matt Scharfglass on bass, Lucille will perform Unwritten on Saturday, May 7th at 3:00 pm; on Thursday, May 19th at 7:00 pm; and on Friday, May 20th at 7:00 pm. With direction by David Hilder, this show features a diverse collection of 21st century songs written by outstanding artists such as Adele, Annie Lennox, Sara Bareilles, Susan Werner, Meghan Trainor and Tracy Chapman. The program reflects the voices of women in their early 20's as well as those in their 60's, and every decade in between, opening a window to the hearts and minds of contemporary women. Lucille is the recipient of the prestigious Hanson Award, presented each year to one individual by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. Lucille performed for a number of years in the regional productions of the New Jersey-based Entertainers Theater before developing her first cabaret act. Since her Don't Tell Mama debut in 1999, she has presented nine different one-woman shows at clubs in New York City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, including Mama Rose's, The Encore, Helen's, Odette's, The Stockton Inn, and Bob Egan's Cabaret Supper Club. She has also appeared as a guest performer in special productions at the Laurie Beechman Theater and the Metropolitan Room in NYC, and Tim McCloone's Supper Club in Asbury Park.
