NYS: LYNNE KERR IN SALEM: MORE SONGS MY HUSBAND WROTE

NYS: LYNNE KERR IN SALEM: MORE SONGS MY HUSBAND WROTE

On Saturday, November 10th at 8:00 pm, The CABARET AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) welcomes back to its stage Manhattan cabaret artist Lynne Kerr, a flatland transplant who moved permanently to her Hebron vacation home in 2007. Ms. Kerr's show, MORE Songs My Husband Wrote, directly builds on her 2010 CD release, Songs My Husband Wrote, twenty-two songs written by Fort Salem's artistic director, Jay Kerr. Lynne's interest in solo performing began in college, when she sang on the iconic Uncle Floyd cable television show. Her practical nature led her to a career in pharmaceutical advertising, retiring as a senior vice-president in charge of internal communications at Chicago-based Corbett Accel Healthcare Group. As she pursued a career as corporate executive, she chose to explore her dream of being a performing musician, starting with singing lessons in 1988. Training with an instructor who later became her husband, she followed late nights at the office with open mics at two of the most famed of New York's cradles of singing talent, the legendary Village Gate in Greenwich Village and Brandy's on the upper East Side. Call for cover/minimum information.

L.A.: CHAMBERS, HERBERT, & ELLIS AT THE GARDENIA

L.A.: CHAMBERS, HERBERT, & ELLIS AT THE GARDENIA

Chambers, Herbert, & Ellis will perform at THE GARDENIA(7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Wednesday, November 7th at 9:00 pm. Pierre Chambers, Lisa Herbert, and Mitch Ellis have struck a mother lode of unique and exhilarating musical material through exhuming, creatively re-working, and re-inventing works of legendary jazz artists through the nearly lost art of "vocalese" - assigning what would generally be considered instrumental riffs to the human voice. Their talents spring directly from their dads: bass player Paul Chambers played on and off with Miles Davis and John Coltrane in the '50s; bassist Mort Herbert toured with the Louis Armstrong All-Stars in the '50s and '60s; and guitarist Herb Ellis played with the Oscar Peterson trio for many years and established a very successful solo career spanning decades. Creating an impact recalling The Manhattan Transfer, the group's repertoire pays homage to the vocal treatments of Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, many of which were themselves based on Ellington or Basie big band arrangements, and features expanded treatments of original vocalese and jazz harmonies in musical arrangements played, written, or made famous by, their own fathers. Ensconced at The Gardenia the first Wednesday of every month, with each show spanking new, they are becoming increasingly popular as word of mouth spreads ... and the "buzz" surrounding them is well-deserved. Piano support for this month's Halloween special is supplied by Richard Eames, with Tim Emmons on bass. Call for cover/minimum information.
