Spotlight On Productions brings what is bound to become the hit of this cabaret season: Teresa Fischer aka "Lady T"'s "Comedy Roulette!" with performances at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm; Saturday, May 30th at 5:00 pm; Monday, June 5th at 7:00 pm; and Monday, June 15th at 7:00 pm. Praised and adored for her comedic turn of a song, Teresa Fischer features some truly funny songs from her repertoire and introducing some new ones. She is finally giving us this DON'T MISS cabaret hour of hilarity and fun! "Comedy Roulette!" features an all comedy song line-up and is broken up into four "Comedy game show" segments where the audience decides what Lady T will sing next! "Game Show Host" Frank Calo presides over the hilarity and will even join in on a song or two. And, yes, there will be puppets! Cabaret veteran Paul Chamlin is the musical director and one-man band for this fun evening that features special musical arrangements by Paul Chamlin and Andrew David Sotomayor. Frank Calo, Artistic Director of Spotlight On Productions, directs and hosts. Lady T has taken us on quite a ride that past few years with her shows "Destinations and Detours", "Hip To Be Happy" and "Scene Of The Crime" (which was on Cabaret Hotline Online's Top Ten list for 2011). Her debut CD LET IT GO was released in the fall of 2012 and Christmas Is• - a collaboration with Candice Corbin and Andrew David Sotomayor - was released in December 2013. NYC: A VERY DREXLER CABARET AT THE BEECHMAN
Identical twin sisters Lily and Michelle Drexler bring their show, A Very Drexler Cabaret, to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm as they explore their relationship from womb to womanhood. Double the comedy, double the showtunes and double the shtick! From Broadway hits to standards to pop anthems, there is something for everyone in this hilarious and poignant piece. After a sold out run at Feinstein's in San Francisco, the Drexler twins are thrilled to bring their show to New York City and add Broadway veteran and comedian Nell Balaban on as director! Michelle Drexler has been seen on regional stages all over the country performing many styles from Shakespeare to Musical Theater. Companies she has worked with include Shotgun Players, San Francisco Playhouse, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Playhouse, Kingsman Shakespeare Company, 42nd Street Moon, Great River Shakespeare Festival and American Repertory Theatre. NYC: SUSAN WINTER, "A WOMAN FOR ALL SEASONS."
Susan Winter moves to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm with a reprise of her newest show, titled "Susan Winter, A Woman for All Seasons." Susan will be singing some of her latest favorite songs set to fabulous Tedd Firth arrangements, as she tells stories of coming to terms with ... well, coming to terms. Alex Rybek is at the piano, with Tom Hubbard on bass. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: NAT ZEGREE: WHO NEEDS MUSIC?
Nat Zegree returns to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Monday, May 18th at 9:30 pm with a brand new show unlike anything seen before! Nat will dazzle the audience without a single page of music in front of him as he performs the vast library of music that he's learned by ear; from pop to classical, film scores to jingles. He dances from genre to genre and just to make sure he doesn't get off easy, members of the audience will try to stump him in a slew of party games that will amaze and engage and someone might even win a prize, if the audience get's lucky. He'll also debut new songs of his own and that he's written with Eric Holmes. Featuring special guests: Natalie Weiss, Brook Wood, CJ Pawlikowski, Zachary Francis Stewart, Hannah Zazzaro, Angelo Mcdonough, and Justin Luciano. There is a $20 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
NYC: THE MOMENT YOU BEEN WAITING FOUR BY JENN HARRIS
Jenn Harris brings her show 'The Moment You Been Waiting Four' to THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Monday, May 18th at 9:30 pm. Jenn likes her Barbies, her version of MTV music videos, and working it ALL out. In her first solo show ever since her bedroom at the age of 7, Jenn uses props and pop music from her past & present to examine whatever and get her through the week. Jenn Harris is a New York City actress best known for playing Clarice Starling in the Off Broadway hit, "SILENCE! The Musical", Lortel and Theater World Award winner for "Modern Orthodox", and co-star of the Indi hit film "GAYBY". She was a regular in "Our Hit Parade" at Joe's Pub and has done numerous Off Broadway and Regional plays. Some TV credits include "30 Rock", "Alpha House", "Bored To Death" and the films "Better Living Through Chemistry", "A Case Of You", "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and the upcoming "5Doctors". She is a member of QWAN company who perform dramatic staged parodies of films (NOTES! and SWAN!!!) and are currently in development of a new perfect mess. She was in season two of the wildly successful web series "HIGH MAINTENANCE" and writes web content for Conde Nast Entertainment. Her vintage web series "Meet The Agents" and many other performance videos can be seen on Youtube for free! There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: BRENDA BRAXTON: ACT 2 ... NOW WHAT?
Tony Nominee Brenda Braxton will be taking the stage at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm. Brenda was last seen as Velma Kelly in Broadway's hit musical Chicago. Prior to that, she was featured on Broadway in the musical revue Smokey Joe's Cafe, a performance that earned her a 1995 Tony Award nomination, the NAACP Theater Award, the city of Chicago's Jefferson Award and a Grammy Award for Best Cast Album. She co-directed and co choreographed the acclaimed 2001 Actors' Fund Benefit Concert of Dreamgirls. Other Broadway credits include Jelly's Last Jam, Cats, Legs Diamond and the original production of Dreamgirls. She received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "Living the Dream" Award given by New York Gov. George Pataki and the Josephine Baker Award from the National Council of Negro Women for her work as founder of Leading Ladies Just for Teens, seminars geared to empowering teenage girls. In November 2006, she launched BBRAXTON; Exceptional Grooming for Exceptional Men, a men's grooming salon located in Harlem. The first salon of its kind, BBRAXTON offered men's grooming services for the discriminating customer. In 2009 Ms. Braxton was the only woman honored with the "Men of Style Award " presented by Gillette Fuzion and BBRAXTON salon hosted the Gillette Fuzion Tour in New York City for a second year. In realizing the importance of giving back, Ms Braxton founded a not -for-profit organization called, Leading Ladies Just for Teens (LLJFT), seminars geared toward empowering young girls to be the best they can be. Leading Ladies began in 1996 at the Virginia Theater with a series of seminars designed to encourage, challenge and inspire young girls to dream and set goals. For her work as founder of LLJFT Ms. Braxton has received the Dr. Martin Luther King "Living the Dream" award given by New York's Governor Pataki, the Josephine Baker Award from the National Council of Negro Women, and the Community Service award given by the National Association of Negro Business Women. NYC: LINDSEY HOLLOWAY - MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY
Award-winning actor/ singer and 2014 MetroStar Finalist Lindsey Holloway presents an evening of story and song chronicling the search for and the discovery of true personal happiness at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, May 18th at 9:30 pm. The show will include songs from both chapters of the Great American Songbook, as well as classic favorites from the Golden Age of Broadway. Lindsey Holloway began her professional performing career as a teenager doing theatre in her native Dallas, Texas, and has since relocated to New York City to pursue show business. Performing highlights since arriving in the city are singing and dancing in the chorus of the annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids benefit Broadway Backwards 5 at Lincoln Center, performing as Rachel in the reading of "Work: The Musical" at the Metropolitan Playhouse, and singing in both the 2011 and 2013 Drama League Benefit Galas, honoring Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald, respectively. During last year's 2014 MetroStar Talent Challenge, Lindsey rounded out as a Top 5 finalist. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: JAMES MONROE IGLEHART MAKES 54 BELOW DEBUT: HOW THE HECK DID I GET HERE?
Fresh from his Tony Award-winning, nightly show-stopping performance in as the beloved Genie in Disney's Aladdin, as well as Broadway performances in Memphis and Spelling Bee, James Monroe Iglehart makes his debut at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm with How the Heck Did I Get Here? James relives his obsession with being cool, getting girls and becoming a star told through funny childhood stories and songs ranging from R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel and Broadway (and maybe a country tune!). NYC: CHARLIE ROSEN'S BROADWAY BIG BAND AT 54 BELOW
A full sized jazz orchestra composed of seventeen musicians all play bandleader Charlie Rosen's re-imagined arrangements of an eclectic mix of tunes from Broadway's past, present and beyond at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Monday, May 18th at 9:30 pm. Both modern and classic showtunes are on display in this hugely unique and winning evening, sung by the best and brightest of Broadway's young generation of leading performers in the timeless tradition of a big band. Directed by Max Friedman. Featuring performances from Nick Blaemire (Godspell, Dogfight), Tony Nominee Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange, The Book of Mormon), Janet Krupin (Bring It On, If/Then), Tony Nominee Bryce Pinkham (Gentlemen's Guide..., The Heidi Chronicles), Ciara Renee (Pippin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and more to be announced. NYC: COLE RUMBOUGH AT LE CIRQUE CAFE
Cole Rumbough performs at LE CIRQUE CAFE (151 East 58th Street, NYC - 212-644-0202) on Monday, May 18th with sets from 7:30 pm to 1:30 am as part of the club's Musical Monday's Series. Dedicated to preserving and promoting the romance and songwriting genius of the Great American Songbook, Cole's influences are drawn from Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Vic Damone, Marilyn Maye, Christine Andreas, Mel Torme, Doris Day, Nat King Cole, and of course, Frank Sinatra. Cole Rumbough has performed at many private events and charity galas in New York, the Hamptons and Palm Beach, including the prestigious International Red Cross Ball with the Peter Duchin Orchestra. Cole will be performing with Sterling Overshown on Piano, Devon Gillingham on Bass, and Mario M Irigoyen on drums. There is no cover, no minimum.
NYC: PENNY ARCADE AT JOE'S PUB: LONGING LASTS LONGER
Penny Arcade and her long-time collaborator Steve Zehentner, continue their development of Longing Lasts Longer, a passionate rumination on love, longing and the loss of New York's cultural identity at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Mondays, May 18th, 25th, and June 1st & 8th, all shows at 7:00 pm. In the post-gentrified landscape of "The Big Cupcake," where ideas too have been gentrified, Longing Lasts Longer is set in a New York disappearing under the weight of suburbanization, cultural amnesia and the politically correct straightjacket of consensus. An ode to the eternal seeker, Longing Lasts Longer is equal parts memoir, manifesto, cultural critique and Cri de Coeur, where Arcade's snake-bite observations create a nourishing euphoric rush of truth telling as visionary as it is inclusive and hilarious. Embedded into this rollicking landscape, a live-mixed soundscape of music grooves ranging from Al Green to John Lennon, jump, counterpunch and exalt, charting an emotional pathway for the audience and a new anthem to personal happiness. NYC: AT JOE'S PUB: TORI SCOTT: THIRSTY!
Belter and bad decision expert Tori Scott returns to JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Mondays, May 18th & June 1st at 9:30 pm for another evening of brassy songs and slurred autobiographical stories. In "Thirsty!" her new solo show at Joe's Pub, she continues to evaluate her poor life choices and celebrate her love of vodka while belting songs written by other people. Thirsty! is Tori's 11th solo show at Joe's Pub. She's performed frequently at 54 Below, the Laurie Beechman, the Metropolitan Room, and basically every important cabaret stage except the bar at Flaming Saddles. The thirst is real, the vocals are legit, and the stories are, tragically, all too true. Come get drunk, clap a lot, and leave without learning a goddamned thing. There is a $20 cover.
NYC: DINE & DANCE WITH VINCE GIORDANO AND THE NIGHTHAWKS - NOW AT THE IGUANA
Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks are back - and now will play every Monday & Tuesday night from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at at IGUANA'S VIP LOUNGE (240 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-765-5454). Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection. Giordano is the leading American specialist in the jazz styles of the 1920s and 1930s. His primary instrument is the bass saxophone. Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks have performed at countless music festivals and concert dates, and have appeared in - and provided music for - dozens of television and film projects, including the award-winning HBO series Boardwalk Empire. NYC: NATALIE DOUGLAS IN "HELLO DOLLY ... THE MUSIC OF DOLLY PARTON"
The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents the return of singer Natalie Douglas to the BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) stage on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm. Her show "Hello Dolly: The Music of Dolly Parton", is a celebration of the beloved singer, actor, and songwriter. Natalie Douglas, celebrated vocalist and recent host of the Sunday night Birdland Jazz Party, returns to the historic room in after a smashing NYC September debut & a triumphant weeklong run in London. Douglas brings back this popular program, in which she pays tribute to another notably buxom performer: the beloved singer, actor, songwriter and Broadway composer Dolly Parton. Featured music includes original Parton compositions like "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors", and "I Just Might" from the Broadway musical 9 to 5, in addition to tunes Dolly creatively covered like Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush" and Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice." Natalie will be joined by her longtime Musical Director Mark Hartman (Broadway's Avenue Q, Sondheim on Sondheim) on piano, accordion and mandolin, and her talented band of Broadway All-Stars. Natalie Douglas, the seven-time MAC Award Winner, and Backstage Bistro Award Winner has garnered rave reviews for her unique blend of jazz, blues, standards, pop, folk and country music. Recent tributes include being awarded The 2014 Margaret Whiting Award onstage at Carnegie Hall from the Mabel Mercer Foundation and then in September 2014 Natalie's portrait was added to the legendary Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame. NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT
Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.
