NYC: FREDDY COLE AT BIRDLAND

Freddy Cole will perform atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, June 3rd through 7th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Freddy Cole doesn't apologize for sounding like his brother, Nat "King" Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities. He plays piano, sings and performs live with guitar and upright bass, just like Nat. Yet his voice is raspier, smokier, jazzier even. But he has emerged from the great shadow cast by his elder brother. In truth, his phrasing is far closer to that of Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday than that of his brother and his timing swings a little more. His vocals - suave, elegant, formidable, and articulate - are among the most respected in jazz. Cole's career continues to ascend as he has moved into the front ranks of America's homegrown art form with a style and musical sophistication all his own. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: BLUE NOTE JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS: BEKA & DJ LOGIC

Beka & DJ Logic featuring Victor Bailey & Friends will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592 - ) on Thursday, June 5th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival. It was back in summer of 2011 at the Black Sea Jazz Festival, when Beka Gochiashvili met with an innovative turntablist and kindred spirit Jason Kibler a.k.a. DJ Logic and his band members in Take Five club, Batumi, Georgia. During jam-sessions in the club a musical chemistry quickly developed between them and they decided to form this band. Besides Beka and DJ Logic the band is represented by highly talented alluring vocalist Butterscotch, world's famous electric bassist Victor Bailey, adventurous keyboardist James Hurt, alto sax titan Jaleel Shaw, and remarkable young powerhouse drummer Justin Tyson. The band will perform tunes from its debut album Chillin' in Batumi. There is a $20-$30 cover.
