LOS ANGELES: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA VOCAL COLLECTIVE At THE GARDENIA

The SoCal/L.A. Vocal Collective will perform at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Wednesday, October 15th at 9:00 pm. Organizer Dolores Petersen formed the SoCal/L.A. Vocal Collective over three years ago to support the works of performing vocalists in the region. Its membership has  grown rapidly and now includes over 100 singers. Selected individuals from this phenomenal group offer great tunes, with hits from a variety of genres going as far back as the '20's.

SAN FRANCISCO: LINDA KOSUT CELEBRATES CD RELEASE AND TRIBUTE TO COMPOSER JOHNNY GREEN

Award winning jazz and cabaret performer Linda Kosut brings "Easy Come, Easy Go: The Music of Johnny Green," a joyous tribute to the great composer and music director, to FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) for a CD release party and performance, on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00 pm. Kosut's appearance coincides with the release of her third CD, "Easy Come, Easy Go: The Music of Johnny Green," on the LML Music Label. Produced and arranged by Mike Greensill, the CD represents a 3 year research project into the life and music of John W. Green, composer of the number one song on the Jazz Standards charts, "Body and Soul." Performed by singers from Gertrude Lawrence to Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse, "Body and Soul" has remained as the most recorded jazz song for over 50 years. Linda will be accompanied by Greensill on piano, Tom Shader on bass, Alan Hall on drums, and Jeremy Cohen on violin. A native New Yorker, Kosut has been living in San Francisco for more than twenty years. She is a graduate of CCNY and studied musical theater and cabaret. She has appeared in clubs in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago; and in San Francisco Bay Area jazz & cabaret venues.• She has played at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, Davenport's in Chicago, in San Francisco at the Empire Plush Room, The Purple Onion, the Octavia Lounge, Anna's Jazz Island, and the Rrazz Room, as well as The Metropolitan Room, The Triad and Don't Tell Mama in New York. There is a $15 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

SAN FRANCISCO: NEW WEST GUITAR GROUP WITH SARA GAZAREK

New West Guitar Group will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday, October 15th at 8:00 pm. Featuring Jeff Stein, John Storie and Perry Smith, the group has been making their mark as a fresh, cutting-edge guitar ensemble for nearly 10 years. Performing popular covers and original music, NWGG combines the acoustic and electric guitar to create their signature sound. Based in Los Angeles and New York, the group tours extensively throughout the United States giving concerts and masterclasses. Firmly rooted in classic jazz, the trio's versatility as both players and composers has given them a reputation as pioneers in the realm of guitar ensemble repertoire. There is a $24 cover.
