TORONTO: MOTHER'S DAY DINNER SHOW WITH COLIN HUNTER AND THE JOE SEALY QUARTET
"THE BOSS IS IN THE HOUSE!" The owner of THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) Colin Hunter, along with renowned Joe Sealy Quartet - Joe Sealy (piano); Paul Novotny (bass); Daniel Barnes (drums); Alison Young (saxophone) - will entertain on Sunday, May 11th at 8:00 pm. While some people only dream of becoming artists their entire lives, others follow their dream while also pursuing brilliant careers in other fields. Such is the case of crooner Colin Hunter. Colin is the founder, owner and Chairman of the Board of the Sunwing Travel Group, comprising Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, one of the most important leisure travel organizations in Canada. His love of music lead him to opening a Toronto Jazz Club - JAZZ BISTRO. Colin and his wife Joan wanted to offer the public a comfortable up-scale jazz club, featuring top names from Toronto and international fame, while enjoying delicious food. Colin can often be found on his stage filling the Club with his laid back crooner classics. Colin has been showcased on the Canadian and world stage several times, and is a favorite on Coleur de Jazz 91.1, and JazzFM in Toronto. His amazing voice can be also be heard while flying on his airline, on channel 10. There is a $35 cover (includes dinner).
TORONTO: SUNDAY CABARET: MARCUS NANCE AND TANYA HOLT
Jazz Bistro favourite, bass baritone Marcus Nance and very special guest, 2014 MAC Award winner, Tanya Holt, will perform in the intimate 3rd floor "Jazz Cellar" Lounge of the THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, May 11th with shows at 7:00 & 9:00 pm. They will be accompanied by Michael Barber. Marcus Nance has captivated audiences across Canada and the United States with his magnetic stage presence and lustrous bass-baritone voice. He is equally at home in theatre, opera, concert, and cabaret while setting the highest standards in each, vocally and theatrically. A native New Yorker, Tanya was born to perform. She's been singing in front of appreciative local and community audiences since the age of 5. To further develop and solidify her talent, throughout Junior High and High School, Tanya performed in various musicals including Roar of the Grease Paint, The Music Man and Fiddler On The Roof. Tanya's vocal abilities span a variety of genres - Musical Theatre, R&B, Pop, Gospel, standards and Cabaret. Her talents also include writing, arranging and recording her own songs. There is a $20 cover.
WASHINGTON D.C.: VANESSA RENEE WILLIAMS AT BLUES ALLEY
Vanessa Renee Williams will perform at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Sunday, May 11th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Her debut album 'Vanessa' was released in 2002 and made the top ten of Billboard magazine's gospel albums chart. Her follow-up album 'Here I Go Again' was released in 2004. Williams is the first artist signed with Detroit-based BAJADA Records, founded by Bishop Andrew and Pastor Viveca Merritt, of the Straight Gate International Church. While others made suggestions, Williams says no one ever made a definite offer to record a project with such promise and faith. "Vanessa", released on May 7, 2002, debuted at #10, and peaked at # 7 on Billboard's gospel chart. Call for cover/minimum information.
