LOS ANGELES: SoCal VOCAL COLLECTIVE AT THE GARDENIA

The SoCal/L.A. Vocal Collective inaugurates a series of collaborations atTHE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Wednesday, May 14th at 9:00 pm. The series will be presented throughout the year, and promises to be an enlightening evening of fun and entertainment. Organizer Dolores Petersen formed the SoCal/L.A. Vocal Collective in 2007 to support the works of performing vocalists in the region, with a membership that has since grown immensely, now comprising over 100 singers. Selected individuals from this phenomenal group offer songs from noted Hollywood films - some popular, some overlooked, and some nearly forgotten - representing a stimulating array of genres. SAN FRANCISCO: THE BETH CUSTER ENSEMBLE AT YOSHI'S

The Beth Custer Ensemble will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday, May 14th at 8:00 pm. The Ensemble is a veritable creme de la creme of Bay Area musicians including Jan Jackson on drums, (Will Bernard's Motherbug, Black Pole), guitarist/vocalist David James (AfroFunk Experience, The Coup, Spearhead), Chris Grady on trumpet (Tom Waits, Grassy Knoll, Jewel), Vicky Grossi on bass (Mitch Marcus, Bitches Brew), vocalist Diana Mangano (Jefferson Airplane) and Beth Custer, clarinets/vocal (Club Foot Orchestra, Trance Mission, Eighty Mile Beach, Clarinet Thing).Recent projects include a commission by San Francisco Cinematheque to compose and perform live scores Alexandre Hammid's films at SF MOMA; performing live for The Joe Goode Performance Group's dance/theatre productions at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts; premiering new work at Davies Symphony Halls After Hours Series; performing a CD release party and on the Go Left Festival at Yoshi's. The Beth Custer Enesemble delights audiences with a wide ranging repertoire in the US and abroad. Dinner/Show: $52 Show only: $26.
