TONIGHTS CABARET PICK FOR LOS ANGELES: NIGHT IN THE CITY WITH MARK AND MARY
NIGHT IN THE CITY - A smart musical cocktail that celebrates the coming together of East and West starring LA jazz singer and Songwriter Mark Winkler and New York vocalist Mary Foster Conklin will be presented atUPSTAIRS AT VITELLO'S(4349 Tujunga Avenue, Studio City, CA - 818-769-0905) on Saturday, Marcvh 1st at 8:00 pm. You could call it "Tales of Hollywood meets the Naked City." Mark will mix some choice new originals with Laura Nyro and the great American Songbook, then Mary will add songs of beat poet Fran Landesman along with tunes by Matt Dennis and Joni Mitchell. You can bet there will be a duet or two to top off the set. Mary is loathe to leave her downtown Manhattan digs for the glare of Hollywood, so her rare appearance in the West with Mark makes this a special occasion for all. They will be backed by Rich Eames on piano, Lyman Medieros on bass and Peter Buck on drums with saxophone/flute Ann Patterson. Call for cover/minimum information.
