BOSTON: JASON ANICK QUARTET - CD RELEASE SHOW FOR TIPPING POINT
Jazz violinist and mandolinist Jason Anick will perform atTHE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Tuesday, February 25th at 7:30 pm. He is joined by Jason Yeager - piano, Matt DeChamplain - piano, Greg Loughman - bass and Mike Connors - drums. Anick is rapidly making a name for himself as one of the top players on today's scene. The 28-year-old virtuoso is one of the youngest instructors at Boston's Berklee College of Music and is in-demand as a first-call sideman. Anick records and tours internationally with Grammy award-winning Nashville guitarist John Jorgenson, who recruited Anick in 2008 while he was still a senior at Hartt Conservatory. He also performs with the Rhythm Future Quartet, which is widely known for its fiery Gypsy jazz, but it's Anick's own music that's increasingly earning acclaim. He won top honors for improvisation in the ATSA Alternative Styles competition. Tipping Point, Anick's second CD as a leader, showcases the breadth and depth of his compositions as well as his playing on violin and both acoustic and electric mandolins. It's jazz without boundaries, an inclusive music that incorporates the influences of mainstream jazz, classical, new acoustic music, Gypsy jazz, and swing. Tipping Point declares that for the open-eared, musical exclusion is a dead end. What tie together the various strains of Anick's vision are his extraordinary command of his chosen instruments and the spirited contributions of the like-minded players that accompany him on this musical journey. There is an $18 cover.
