NYC: GREG LASWELL CD RELEASE AT JOE'S PUB
Greg Laswell will perform atJOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Thursday, February 27th at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. It's been seven years now since Greg Laswell released his debut album. Four records later, many things in his life have changed, including many of the songs themselves. Some changed from playing solo shows; phrasing and tempo became more and more improvised in songs like 'What a Day' and 'Embrace Me'. Other songs changed from simply from his desire to give the fans something new; 'Comes and Goes In Waves' and 'How the Day Sounds' were completely deconstructed and played on acoustic guitar with a cello. Others he changed on purpose, because the song meanings had changed over time; 'High and Low' is something that happened to him then, not something that is happening to him now, which allows him to sing it differently. So Greg took three weeks, and (re)recorded a few of the more popular songs off each record. Musically, he imposed two rules: no drums, and less than four tracks per song (allowing him to comp string sections onto one track). He also mixed in two newcomers to the gang. One is a song called 'December' and the second is a cover of 'It's a Wonderful Life' by Sparklehorse. There is a $20 cover.
