NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: MUSIC FOR TOMORROW - A BENEFIT FOR JAPAN

This coming March will mark the three-year anniversary of The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of March 11, 2011. To remember the tragedy and show how music has the ability to raise up spirits in the most difficult of times, Blue Note Jazz Club, Bob James, and NHK Enterprises (Japan's national public broadcasting organization) present a special charity concert at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, February 24th at 8:00 pm to support Tohoku (three years after the Earthquake and Tsunami) and share the spirit of hope and encouragement through music. Following the tragedy, many world-renowned artists flew to Japan to support and encourage the people of Tohoku (the severely damaged area in northern Japan), including pianist Bob James. Bob's music united everyone, giving strength and hope to those who were overcoming difficulties. Titled "Music For Tomorrow: A Benefit For Japan," the program will feature Makoto Ozone, John Scofield, Mike Stern, James Genus, and Clarence Penn, among others (hosted by James). The musicians will reflect on those who are still struggling to recover from the tragedies in Tohoku and the rest of the world, while celebrating music's power to encourage and uplift. All admission proceeds will be delivered as a charity to The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami victims. The concert will be recorded by NHK, broadcast throughout Japan (including in the Tohoku area) and internationally through NHK channels. There is a $30-$45 cover.

NYC: LES PAUL MONDAY'S FEATURING: POPA CHUBBY AND THE LES PAUL TRIO

THE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB(1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121) presents Les Paul Monday's featuring: Popa Chubby and the Les Paul Trio on Monday, February 24th with shows at 8:30 & 10:30 pm. Born the son of a candy store owner, at age thirteen Theodore Joseph "Ted" Horowitz began playing drums; shortly thereafter, he began listening to the music of the Rolling Stones and started playing guitar. Although he grew up in the 1970s, Horowitz was influenced by artists of the 1960s, including Jimi Hendrix andCream, among others. In his early twenties, although he mainly played blues music, he also worked as backing for punk rock poet Richard Hell. Horowitz first came to public attention after winning a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON, a public radio station in Long Beach, California. He won the New Artist of the Year award and as a result was chosen as the opening act at the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992. In 1994, Horowitz released several albums on his own Laughing Bear label, including It's Chubby Time and Gas Money, before he obtained a recording contract with Sony Music/Okeh Records for Booty and the Beast, his first major-label album, which was released in 1995. In 1996, was released a live recording of Horowitz's, Hit the High Hard One. Two years later, One Million Broken Guitars was released on Lightyear Records;Brooklyn Basement Blues followed in 1999. There is a $30 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

NYC: MONDAY NIGHTS WITH WBGO: CATHERINE RUSSELL CD RELEASE

WBGO is proud to partner once again with DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday Nights with WBGO. The series features talented new artists as well as groups from some of the area's great college jazz programs. Each performance is hosted by WBGO announcer Rhonda Hamilton. on Monday, February 24th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm the show will feature Catherine Russell's CD Release. Live webcast and artist interview with WBGO host Rhonda Hamilton will begin at 7:15pm EST on jalc.org/live. There is a $42.50 cover.
