Marino is the creator and co-producer of SOLOCOM, an all-solo festival that packed houses at The PIT this past November and gave birth to 60 world premiere solo comedies. He has been performing his 5-star reviewed one-man comedy Desperately Seeking the Exit for the past two years on three continents, including a month-long run at London's Leicester Square Theatre. NYC: THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND
After sold out runs in 2009 & 2010, Thank You For Being A Friend returns to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) for its third limited-run engagement. Performances are Fridays, February 14th & 28th at 10:00 pm. This unauthorized musical parody inspired by the beloved TV sitcom "The Golden Girls," features book by Nick Brennan, music by Jeff Thomson, and lyrics by Luke Jones and Cisco Cardenas. In the show four women over 60 (Blanchette, the varicose-veined vixen; Dorthea, the brainy ball-buster; Roz, the lovable airhead; and Sophie, the wisecracking spitfire) are spending their golden years together in a wicker-filled bungalow in Miami. But when gay pop superstar Ricky Martin moves next door, his loud outdoor sex parties keep the quartet of cheesecake-loving retirees awake. The solution pits the gays against the girls at the annual Shady Oaks Retirement Home Talent Show: if the women win, then no more sex parties; if the gays garner top prize, the sassy seniors must serve as the party's clean-up crew. Singing, dancing and hilarity ensues! This newly revised production will feature original cast members Chad Ryan, Luke Jones, and Nick Brennan with newcomer John De Los Santos. The production team features Jonathan Pennington (Director), Cisco Cardanez (Assistant Director/Stage Manager), John De Los Santos (Choreographer), Luke Jones and Nick Brennan (Set Design), Timothy Hart (Lighting), Jessa-Raye Court (Costumes) and Doug Repetti (Sound). There is a $20 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum. Reservations athttps://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/929670

NYC: HENRY WAGONS AT JOE'S PUB
Henry Wagons, unanimously lauded as one of Australia's greatest and most entertaining performers, will perform atJOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Friday, February 28th at 7:30 pm. Along with his rare charisma, he offers heavy doses of stomping outlaw rock and irresistible crooning. His live show is a performance like no other. In early 2013 Henry, and his band of misfits, crowded around a polished table in Nashville Tennessee above the factory floor of the United Records Pressing Plant. It was there they recorded a haunting, and at times humorous 'Upstairs at United' vinyl only release. This is the 9th volume in this strictly analogue series, immaculately curated by United Records, which will be for sale at this show. The album was recorded in a room with a rich history, which looks like its still recovering from a massive weekend in the mid 60s with many of the Motown legends to Wayne Newton to Hank Williams Jr. all having spent time soaking into the walls. Released in November 2013, Henry presents 7 songs on Upstairs at United, including an Elvis Presley and a Waylon Jennings cover; all intricately mixed and performed live, straight to 2 track tape, then pressed too heavy as hell 12" vinyl spinning at 45rpm, never having touched the digital realm. Having spent the last few years touring with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Justin Townes Earle, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zero's, Calexico, Bill Callahan, Will Oldham, Okkervil River, John Hiatt and more it is safe to say that Wagons is a road-hardened formidable live act. There is a $12 cover.
NYC: JOE'S PUB PRESENTS THE HOT SARDINES
The Hot Sardines will perform at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Friday, March 28th at 9:30 pm. Take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a Fats Waller-style stride-piano virtuoso, and tie the whole thing together with a magnetic, one-of-the-boys frontwoman whose voice recalls another era, and you have the Hot Sardines, an NYC outfit (with a tap dancer) that's been called consistently electrifying. ) The Sardine sound - wartime Paris via New Orleans, or the other way around - is steeped in the kind of music Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Waller used to make: Straight-up, foot-stomping jazz. Pianist-bandleader Evan "Bibs" Palazzo and Paris-born singerMiz Elizabeth (who owe their collaboration to meeting via Craigslist) describe their band as "born in the 1920s, but raised in the '00s," reflecting a philosophy that hot jazz, dixieland and Tin Pan Alley tunes are all pop music, not historical artifact to be handled with kid gloves. In 2013 The Sardines headlined the TCM Classic Cruise, played Great GoogaMooga Festival, the Spiegeltent and the Blue Note Jazz festival, and continue at their regular haunt The Standard Hotel. There is a $15 cover.
