CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: BENNY GOLSON QUARTET AT DIZZY'S
The Benny Golson Quartet (Benny Golson, saxophone; Mike LeDonne, piano; Buster Williams, bass; Carl Allen, drums) will perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Friday through Sunday, January 24th through 26th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Born in 1929, saxophonist Benny Golson came up through the bands of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Art Blakey, and others. By the late 1950s, he and Art Farmer co-led the essential group The Jazztet. Many of Golson's compositions have become timeless standards, such as "I Remember Clifford" and "Stablemates," and he has maintained this high quality and reputation throughout his career as a leader in straight-ahead jazz. Golson now leads an all-star quartet, whose "stories from the past" continue to resonate with audiences today as they have throughout the greater part of the last century.
