FLORIDA: MARILYN MAYE AT THE ROYAL ROOM
The legendary Marilyn Maye is returning to THE ROYAL ROOM at THE COLONY HOTEL (155 Hammond Avenue, Palm Beach, FL - 561-659-8100) for her seventh annual engagement. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday, January 28th through February 1st at 8:30 pm. She is the holder of the singer's record (76 appearances) on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Her career is a litany of honors, awards, and landmark achievements. Her hit songs include "Step to the Rear," "The Lamp is Low," "Sherry" and "If My Friends Could See Me Now." Known as a "Singer's Singer," she has performed at New York's Copa Cobana, The Living Room, Michael's Pub, The Rainbow Grill, St. Regis, The Metropolitan Room, Birdland and appears frequently at 54 Below. $120 for prix fixe dinner & show; $55 for show only.
SAN FRANCISCO: ANTONIO ZAMBUJO AT YOSHI'S
Antonio Zambujo will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600 - ) on Thursday, January 30th at 8:00 pm. With his earthy and atmospheric songs, honeyed tones and sensitive interpretations, faso sensation Antonio Zambujo pushes Portugal's soulful folk tradition into the contemporary. Born in southern Portugal, Zambujo infuses his fado with Cante Alentejano - the male choral chanting tradition of his birthplace. He also incorporates elements of Brazilian Bossa Nova, M.P.B. and jazz, adding a playfulness and inventiveness to the tradition. After recording his first album O mesmo fado in 2002, Zambujo won the prestigious Radio Nova FM prize for the 'Best New Fado Voice" and the Am•lia Rodrigues Foundation's Award for Best Male Fado Singer. He has recorded four more albums since: Por meu cante (2004); Outro Sentido (2007 - named 'Top of the World' album by Songlines) and Guia (2010), which are all available in the US on the World Village label. This tour will celebrate Zambujo's latest album, Quinto (2012), which was just released on Universal. Dinner/show: $69 - show only $35.
SAN FRANCISCO: ANITA GILLETTE • "AFTER ALL"
Anita Gillette presents her new one-woman show, After All, atFEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063 - ) on Thursday, January 30th at 8:00 pm. Gillette will perform a wonderful evening of music and memories that takes an intimate, touching, and hilarious look behind the scenes from Broadway to Hollywood. An autobiographical work, After All takes audiences backstage with Gillette as a young showgirl starting out in the original cast of Gypsy with Ethel Merman onwards into the worlds of David Merrick and Gower Champion in Carnival through a building career that leads to a Tony nominated performance in the Neil Simon comedy Chapter Two. From major feature films playing roles such as Ms. Mona in "Moonstruck," co-starring in hit television shows like "Quincy" and Game Show classics, to playing Tina Fey's mother in "30 Rock" and Annie Fitzsimmons in the multiple award winning hit "Modern Family," Gillette will surprise and delight in this production that is certain to entertain! After All is directed by award winning New York cabaret veteran Barry Kleinbort. Musical Direction is by award winner Paul Greenwood, who has accompanied some of the industry's most honored performers. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
