NYC: ARTURO SANDOVAL AT THE BLUE NOTE

Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Friday through Sunday, November 1st through 3rd with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. A protege of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but it didn't take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world. He has since evolved into one of the world's most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer. He is one of the most dynamic and vivacious live performers of our time, and has been seen by millions at the Oscars performing with Celine Dion, at the Grammy Awards with Justin Timberlake and as a leader, as well as on the Billboard Awards with Alicia Keys. He is joined by Ed Calle, sax; Kemuel Roig, piano; Dennis Marks, bass; Alexis Arce, drums and Armando Arce, percussion. There is a $30-$45 cover.

Saxophonist Ted Nash is a vital part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Though steeped in tradition, Nash never hesitates to push boundaries when required. Whether playing with Wynton Marsalis or his eclectic group Odeon - featuring tuba and violin - Nash always stays true to the music. At Dizzy-s he will be joined by his own big band, which is currently celebrating the release of its new album, Chakra.
