Elaine St. George, winner of this year's MAC Hanson Award, has built her new show around the work of Steve Goodman, the man she calls "the best songwriter you've (probably) never heard of." The show will be presented at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Wednesday, October 30th; Friday, November 1st; Thursday, November 7th and Thursday, November 14th. All shows are at 7:15 pm. This show reunites St. George with the band that played her critically acclaimed Joni Mitchell show, which debuted at the Metropolitan Room in 2012: Musical Director Ross Patterson, Adam Armstrong on bass and Karen Waltuch on viola. Chicago-based Goodman had a biting wit and an eclectic musical style that won him fans as disparate as Bette Midler, Dizzy Gillespie, and Leonard Bernstein, who declared he wanted to write songs with Steve. That collaboration never happened, but Goodman did write some songs with John Prine and occasionally turned to Shel Silverstein for help with a lyric. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $10 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
