N.Y. STATE: BROADWAY VETERAN CARMICHAEL SINGS LOVE SONGS IN FORT SALEM CABARET

Continuing its Fall at the Fort Cabaret series on Saturday, November 16th at 8:00 pm, The MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) welcomes the return engagement of Broadway performer, Bill Carmichael, in an evening of love songs entitled, Everybody Loves a Lover. Carmichael will introduce to the Washington County audience his special guest, Clifton Park native Heather-Liz Copps, who has just finished a run in the Not So Common Players' production of The Secret Garden. One of those rare Broadway performers who was raised in Manhattan, Bill Carmichael's performing career started as a chorister at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, through a role in the Broadway chorus of Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan, to being one of the original cast members of the off-Broadway hit, Forbidden Broadway, in the early eighties. After a stint in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, Carmichael based himself for years in Los Angeles, returning to Broadway in the original cast of the ABBA musical, Mamma Mia! $25 cover includes $6 credit toward coffee and dessert.

Java Jive's "Crooner Show" presents to the audience a look at the great solo and group crooners of our lifetime. Featuring three distinct male voices, trumpets, flugelhorns, trombone, guitars, and keyboards, this three piece group delivers a wide variety of music from the 1940's crooners like Frank Sinatra, to the 70's smooth vocals of Barry White, to present day stars such as Michael Buble. The show has music for everybody, young and less young! All of the songs chosen for the "Crooner Show" were huge hits of their time. BOSTON: ROOMFUL OF BLUES AT THE REGETTABAR

Roomful of Blues will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757 - ) on Saturday, November 16th at 7:30 pm. For nearly half a century, Roomful of Blues has been delivering its signature blend of swing, rock 'n' roll, jump, blues and R&B to euphoric audiences all over the world. To commemorate and celebrate their 45th anniversary, the band hosted a three-day party in March of 2013 at one of their favorite haunts, The Ocean Mist, in Matunuck, Rhode Island. The band blew the doors off the packed club, playing to roaring ovations each night. Happily, the proceedings were recorded and the resulting album, 45 Live, is among Roomful of Blues' crowning achievements. The album is a lightning-in-a-bottle blowout, showcasing the larger-than-life vocal and instrumental power of the band. Tickets are $25.

TORONTO: RENEE ROSNES QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Canadian born, Renee Rosnes will perform with her quartet (Renee Rosnes - piano, Peter Washington - bass, Lewis Nash - drums, Jimmy Greene - sax) at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, November 14th through 17th at 9:00 pm. Rosnes is one of the premier pianists and composers of her generation. Shortly after relocating from Vancouver to New York in 1986, Rosnes quickly established a reputation as a major talent. She has recorded and toured with a veritable "who's who" of jazz, being the pianist of choice for such legendary musicians as Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, JJ Johnson, Buster Williams and Bobby Hutcherson. In 1989, James Moody hired Renee for his quartet, and she remained a member of his band until his passing in 2010. Rosnes has released a series of twelve albums, four of which have garnered Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy. Her recordings reveal her to be both a powerful and sensitive musician with a huge range. She has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from established masters such as Jack DeJohnette and tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, to younger giants such as Christian McBride, Chris Potter, Nicholas Payton and Steve Nelson. She is a formidable composer and in 2003 was named SOCAN's Composer of the Year. Her works have been performed and recorded by Phil Woods, JJ Johnson, Lewis Nash, Joe Locke, the Danish Radio Big Band, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, and recently by up-and-coming trombone star Michael Dease. There is a $25 cover.

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: ROBERT CHAPMAN

Robert Chapman will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday through Saturday, November 12th through 16th at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist series. Robert Chapman is an up-and-coming jazz guitarist from Toronto. From an early age he as been playing all types of music on various instruments but fell in love with jazz after starting to play with the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band during high school. After graduating high school Robert continued his jazz studies at both Mohawk College and Humber College where he had the opportunity to study and play with some of Canada's finest musicians such as Pat Collins, Mike Malone, Adrean Farrugia, Kieran Overs, Neil Swainson, and many more. During his final year at Mohawk College, Robert was a featured artist on Jazz FM 91.1's 'Jazzology' program. Currently Robert is performing all over the greater Toronto area and hopes to play more shows with his trio and quartet. No cover charge.

D.C.: JONATHAN BUTLER AT BLUES ALLEY

Acclaimed South African two-time Grammy nominated songwriter, guitarist, and producer, Jonathan Butler, will perform at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, November 14th through 17th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Butler has had a 25 year recording career in pop, R&B, smooth jazz and adult formats. Butler, a soulfully inspired man, sees music as his salvation and "the purpose and tool which God has used for my life." If we must label and define this individually gifted artist and his music, "soul jazz" seems to be the most fitting and is a driving force behind his live performances.
