TORONTO: LAURA MARKS CD RELEASE SHOW AT JAZZ BISTRO
Visual artist and elegant, swinging and sultry jazz vocalist Laura Marks will celebrate the release of her debut CD '57 Minutes' at THE JAZZ BISTRO(251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, November 12th at 8:00 pm. The show will also feature Mark Kieswetter on piano, Ross McIntyre on bass, Chris Gale on tenor sax, Reg Schwager on guitar and Ben Riley on drums. The recording (which has been beautifully produced by pianist/ arranger/composer Mark Kieswetter) features Laura's unique interpretations of beloved Latin compositions (sung in Spanish and Portuguese) as well as renditions of some very tasty jazz tunes - embracing both "standards" from the Great American Song Book and rarely-performed creative gems from the world of musical theatre. TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: ROBERT CHAPMAN
Robert Chapman will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday through Saturday, November 12th through 16th at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist series. Robert Chapman is an up-and-coming jazz guitarist from Toronto. From an early age he as been playing all types of music on various instruments but fell in love with jazz after starting to play with the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band during high school. After graduating high school Robert continued his jazz studies at both Mohawk College and Humber College where he had the opportunity to study and play with some of Canada's finest musicians such as Pat Collins, Mike Malone, Adrean Farrugia, Kieran Overs, Neil Swainson, and many more. During his final year at Mohawk College, Robert was a featured artist on Jazz FM 91.1's 'Jazzology' program. Currently Robert is performing all over the greater Toronto area and hopes to play more shows with his trio and quartet. No cover charge.
D.C.: CLAUDIO RODITI CD RELEASE AT BLUES ALLEY
Rio born trumpet and flugelhorn player Claudio Roditi will celebrate the release of his latest CD at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Tuesday, November 12th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm as part of the club's Brazilian Jazz series. Roditi has been on the US jazz scene since studying at Berklee College of Music in 1970. Often overlooked among the top players, Claudio has lived in New York for 30 years. He is known for his warm, fluid sound combining post bop and Brazilian elements. A Grammy nominee, he has recorded a dozen albums as a leader. With his Resonance / Heirloom debut, he will get the national push which he so richly deserves. He has worked with Herbie Mann, Charlie Rouse, Paquito D'Rivera and Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. This swinging and sensual date features the legendary drummer Duduka da Fonseca and pianist Helio Alves. On this recording, Claudio performs a number of originals and lesser known gems from the Brazilian repertoire. Call for cover/minimum information.
