CABARET TONIGHT IN NY STATE: ORIGINAL MUSICAL WINNING THE LOTTERY OPENS AT FORT SALEM THEATER

CABARET TONIGHT IN  NY STATE: ORIGINAL MUSICAL WINNING THE LOTTERY OPENS AT FORT SALEM THEATER

The FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) ends its summer Mainstage season with the World Premiere of an original musical, Winning the Lottery, running Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, August 2nd through 11th. Winning the Lottery tells the story of three women who work together in an office, with the realization of everyone's dream: they continually play the same numbers, and one lucky day they win forty-four million dollars. Fort Salem is the only professional theater north of New York City that consistently, year in and year out, is dedicated to creating and producing original musicals, starting in 2007 with a highly successful adaptation of A Christmas Carol, and continuing for the next five seasons with original shows by playwrights Al Budde and Jay Kerr. Budde and Kerr have gathered some of their favorite performers to carry forth their message to the world, including film and television performer Jesse Liebman, whose first post-college job was in Kerr's 2003 musical, Pyrates, at the Theater for the New City in Manhattan. Liebman, familiar to Fort audiences from Songs of War and Peace, I'm Getting My Act Together with Benita Zahn, and most recently 110 in the Shade in 2010, has gone on to co-star as Hugh Grant's assistant in the Hollywood film, Did You Hear About the Morgans, and is a series regular in A Girl's Guide, now in its second season on Cinemax. Playing Jesse's father, as he has in the past, is Gordon Hazzard, who first graced the Fort stage as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Gordon once toured nationally with John Astin in a different musical version of the Dickens classic. The men are joined by three lottery winners: Jessica O'Keefe (Breakfast Epiphanies and Corn!), Pat Reilly (Epiphanies and Senior Moments), and Mary Skelly (A Christmas Carol).
