CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: PJ RASMUSSEN AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Guitarist.composer PJ Rasmussen performs at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, July 28th at 9:30 pm. He is joined by James Weidman on piano, Adrian Moring on bass, Jon Difiore on drums, Nate Giroux on sax and Ben Hankle on trumpet. At a mere 23 years of age, PJ Rasmussen has already played with a host of jazz greats, and now, he has finally released his debut album, "Adventures in Flight," on Third Freedom Records, to critical acclaim both in the US and Europe. Born in 1990, Rasmussen entered a world where jazz seemed reserved more for intellectuals than real people. Picking up the guitar at age 10, he spent more time learning Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton than working his way through the Real Book. Soon, his eclectic tastes lead to a discovery of John Coltrane, and he has never looked back, mixing and matching genres as he pleases. Graduating in 2013 from William Paterson University, Rasmussen lays claim to a remarkable jazz pedigree that includes studies and performances with Bucky Pizzarelli, Gene Bertoncini, and Paul Meyers. His ensemble's have opened for Mulgrew Miller, Terrell Stafford, and Ben Allison, and he made a special guest appearance on Daseul Kim's "Relationship," alongside Vincent Herring and Marcus McLaurine. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
