NYC: GIACOMO GATES WITH THE MILES TONES PROJECT - TONIGHT ONLY
Giacomo Gates returns toDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, July 1st with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. He will present his latest project, Miles Tones, which features lively vocal interpretations of Miles Davis classics, including "All Blue," "Four," "So What," and, yes, "Milestones." He will be joined by John di Martino, piano; Lonnie Plaxico, bass; Tommy Campbell, drums; Freddie Hendricks, trumpet; and special guests Rodney Whitaker, bass, and Reginald Thomas, piano (7:30pm set only). Though Gates is known for his ability to vocalize horns and other instruments, Miles Tones is as much a tribute to the lyricists involved, as it is to the instrumental masters who first made these compositions standards. Supported by the strong instrumental quartet with which Gates recorded the album, this evening of music should excite fans of Davis' traditionally instrumental repertoire, as well as those who enjoy confident vocals. There is a $25 cover.
