NYC: KAI HOFFMAN: HOT ROCKIN' DIVA!

With her feet firmly fixed in 1950s nostalgia, Kai Hoffman comes to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesday, April 29th at 9:30 pm direct from Ronnie Scott's in London with her brand new show Hot Rockin' Diva! With a selection of Kai's favourite songs from the Hot Rockin' Divas of early fifties rhythm and blues, swing, rock and roll and country, this is Kai's personal tribute to ladies like Big Mama Thornton, Rosemary Clooney, Ruth Brown, Patsy Cline and more. With her own inimitable style, Kai brings you a fun-filled show with a dash of exotica and just a peppering of kitsch, with great rockin' tunes, beautiful slow numbers and Kai's own originals - taking you on an interactive cabaret journey with the gals who made rock and roll, before the phrase was even coined. With an on-going residency at Ronnie Scott's in London, now in it's seventh year, Massachusetts-native Kai Hoffman has travelled the world, with shows ranging from the Blue Note Milano to the Elgar Room of the Royal Albert Hall, with the Sheraton Hotel Bangladesh and the European Jazz Expo in between! A cabaret compere, jazz singer, rock and roll diva and recording artist, with three studio albums under her belt, Kai also has a bit of a cheeky side: think Mae West meets Marilyn Monroe meets that very strict high school Latin teacher that you kind-of always had a crush on! Kai has been featured in countless magazine articles and radio, including Time Out London, The Stage, Classic Car Magazine, BBC Radio & Jazz FM. There is a $17.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: BEN RIMALOWER: PATTI ISSUES TONIGHT

Patti Issues will be performed by Ben Rimalower at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438 - ) on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm. With a mix of comic irreverence, stark candor and show-biz bravado, Patti Issues poignantly explores the challenges facing LGBT parents and children while shining unique light on gay men's time-old obsessions with divas. When Ben Rimalower was eight years old, his father came out of the closet and embarked on a drug-fueled tear that left his family in tatters. Amid the chaos of his young life, Ben found comfort - like so many gay boys before him and after - in musical theater, and specifically in the transportive voice of Broadway star Patti LuPone. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

SUBCULTURE NYC (45 Bleaker Street, NYC), in association with Quincy Jones Productions, presents a special concert with Indigenous Australian artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu on Wednesday, April 29th at 8:00 pm. The concert will be the first collaboration between the venue and QJP. Born blind, Gurrumul grew up as a member of the Gumatj clan on Elcho Island, off the coast of tropical North East Arnhemland. His fragile but powerfully emotive voice has affected the public in a way no other artist has done in his native country. The debut album 'Gurrumul' has sold half a million copies worldwide, reaching Triple Platinum in Australia. A deeply traditional man with the voice of an angel singing of his love of country (Wiyathul, Galiku), his deep spiritual connection with the land (Djarimirri, Marrandil), the death of his father (Bapa), the difficulties of being born blind - which he sings in a mixture of local language and English (Gurrumul History) - and the importance to his life of continuity and his ancestors. The backing is sparse and simple. Gurrumul has performed for The Queen of England, The Prince of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, US President Barack Obama, Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark, in addition to being one of only two Australian performers at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, confirming this multi ARIA award-winning musician's place as an international star, capable of transcending cultural boundaries. This unique Aboriginal man sings songs about identity, spirit and connection with the land, its elements and the ancestral beings he is related to.
