WASHINGTON, DC: DAVID BENOIT AT BLUES ALLEY
A five time Grammy nominee for his extraordinary and seminal contributions to contemporary jazz, pianist David Menoit will perform at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Saturday & Sunday, November 1st & 2nd with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Benoit has embarked on a multi-faceted journey into the classical music world. On October 29, 2010, the pianist/composer was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Smooth Jazz Awards in Michigan City, Indiana. This year, Benoit will head on the road to perform compositions from his latest album, Conversation. Benoit gets assistance along the way from musicians representing a broad cross section of styles. There is a $35 cover.
WASHINGTON, DC: SAM PRATHER'S GROOVE ORCHESTRA AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS
Samuel Prather, an exciting and multifaceted pianist, drummer, and vocalist born and raised in Washington DC, brings his Groove Orchestra to BOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Saturday, November 1st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Sam's latest project featuring a Washington DC based collectictive of musicians and vocalists trained in jazz but with an equal love for groove oriented music from all corners of the world is here. Sam has developed a reputation in the local music scene performing and producing with all types of acts. He's equally comfortable in Jazz, Funk, Gospel, Brazilian, Latin, Neo-Soul, and R&B. On the funk/soul side Sam has worked on keyboards with YaMama'Nym, 76 Degrees West, and Fred Yonnet, while on the jazz side he has had the honor of playing piano/drums with Pharoh Saunders, Greg Osby, Heidi Martin, Warren Wolf, and Antonio Parker. Sam studied graduated from UDC where he studied piano with Allyn Johnson, and recently finished the Graduate program at Howard University. He won a student Downbeat award in 2012 for his performance in their Jazz Ensemble. There is an $18 cover.
BETHESDA, MD: JOE CLAIR COMEDY THE RETURN OF TEDDY CARPENTER
Comedian and writer Teddy Carpenter returns to BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Saturday, November 1st with shows at 7:00 & 10:00 pm. His special guests are Queen Aisha & Mike Brooks. Carpenter is a force to be reckoned with in the ever-changing world of the entertainment business. He has developed a style and a disposition that makes one take notice of his abilities and his longevity. Most of all, you will take notice of his will to survive and prosper. Recently Teddy Carpenter has gone back to his roots, stand up comedy and writing projects. In 1998, he was invited to the Aspen Comedy fest where he head lined 8 out of 8 shows. He is now in the process of drafting a Daytime Talk Show, Two Sitcoms and a Movie titled, "First Born." There are even discussions about a Book titled, "The Fall and Rise of a Black Comedian".
