BOSTON: REVOLUTIONARY SNAKE ENSEMBLE HALLOWEEN SHOW

The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble Halloween Show with special guest thereminist, Jon Bernhardt, will take place at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, October 31st at 7:30 pm. The band includes Jerry Sabatini, trumpet; Ken Field, sax; Tom Hall, sax, Dave Harris, trombone & tuba, Phil Neighbors, drums, and Blake Newman, bass. After crowd-stunning performances this summer at the UFO Festival in Roswell, NM and the Festa del Redentore in Venice, Italy, New England Music Awards nominee Revolutionary Snake Ensemble returns to Regattabar for a costumes-optional Halloween throw-down. Guest soloist Jon Bernhardt will supply appropriately scary and spooky sounds via his theremin, one of the world's earliest electronic instruments, which is magically controlled without physical contact by the thereminist. Formed in 1991, the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a funk & street beat improvisational brass band performing a unique blend of original and traditional music. Leader Ken Field is a longtime member of the acclaimed modern music ensemble Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, and an active composer and performer. There is a $20 cover.

BOSTON: ROCKAPELLA AT SCULLERS

Often imitated, never duplicated, the certifiably unique pop musical group 'Rockapella' will perform at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Friday & Saturday, October 31st & November 1st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. The group has taken the traditional genre of a cappella to a new level. The little miracle that keeps the crowds coming back year after year and constantly draws new fans is Rockapella's astonishing full-band sound. A sound that seems to be impossible coming from just five guys with microphones. No instruments, no tracks, no mirrors - and their hands never leave their wrists! Call for cover/minimum information.

TORONTO: HALLOWEEN WITH THE LAURA HUBERT BAND

Laura Hubert and her band will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Halloween, Friday, October 31st at 9:00 pm. She's not exactly a jazz diva, nor a straight blues artist, nor just a pop or country singer. She's a bit of all these, but Laura prefers to think of herself as a singer of "old songs." That term perfectly describes the eclectic repertoire of standards, blues and western swing that she delivers with such passion and style. Her affinity for this music developed over a lifetime of listening. Growing up in Toronto, Laura performed Gilbert and Sullivan operettas in high school while listening to Billie Holiday, Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton at home. At the University of Toronto, where she studied psychology and sociology, Laura fell hard for theatre, acting and singing in numerous productions. That's where she also began experimenting with the jazz repertoire, working up some standards with a young piano player named Peter Hill. For this show she is also joined by Brendan Davis - bass, Nick Fraser - drums, Bob Brough - tenor saxophone, and Chris Gale - baritone saxophone. There is a $15 cover.
