Sam Harris brings his show "An Evening Out with Sam Harris" to MARTINI'S ABOVE FOURTH (3940 4th Avenue, San Diego, CA - 619-400-4500) on Thursday, October 30th at 8:00 pm. For three decades, Sam Harris has starred on Broadway, on television and in concert. Perhaps no other artist has chiseled so completely the niche of redefining the vast American Songbook, exploring songs from the 20s up to today, and appealing to audiences of all ages. In this concert, Harris brings his singular interpretation and inimitable style to an eclectic collection of Broadway and Pop Classics from Hammerstein to Sondheim and U2 to Lennon to Hendrix. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
LOS ANGELES: JOSEPHA GAYER IN "RENAISSANCE: NOTES FROM ITALY"
Josepha Gayer brings her show "Renaissance: Notes From Italy" to THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Thursday, October 30th at 9:00 pm. Ms. Gayer's many operatic successes have included her Metropolitan Opera debut in Jenufa, as well as roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, New York City Opera, L'Opera de Nice, Glimmerglass Opera, and many others. She has participated in several world premieres, including Andre Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire (PBS,) and David Carlson's Anna Karenina. On vacation to Italy with her daughter, Robin she discovered the inspiration for this show, conceived and directed by Brian Lane Green, in which her "notes" include charming stories of family, wistful thoughts of home and love, lovely music, life, and gorgeous songs that came to mind during this life-changing excursion to the Land of the Renaissance, where she discovered that great works of art can inspire, revive, re-awaken, and remind us that we can be reborn at any age. Based on the format of an old-time radio broadcast of horror and suspense programs, Radiotheatre's MADHOUSE is a unique theatrical experience combining music, sound effects and old fashioned storytelling to create a new, hybrid aural experience to whet your imagination. Guaranteed to make you shiver and scream, MADHOUSE will reveal tales of mad men - really mad men - locked away and forgotten about in dark asylums! Now entering their 10th year, Radiotheatre has produced over 60 shows, was nominated for a Drama Desk Award, has won two New York Innovative Theater Awards, and was nominated 13 times - five years back-to-back - as Best Performance Group.
