NYC: PEGGY KING AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Vocalist Peggy King, one of the best-loved stars of TV's Golden Age, as well as stage, screen and nightclubs, continues her amazing resurgence after nearly a 30-year absence, with a series of performances at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), accompanied by musical director Andy Kahn on piano. Performances are scheduled for Wednesday, April 9th at 7:00 pm; Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm; and Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00 pm. Peggy was re-discovered last year in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO film "Behind the Candelabra," in which Michael Douglas and Matt Damon watch a lengthy 1955 video clip of Peggy singing "When Liberace Winks at Me," accompanied by the real Liberace on piano. It also became a popular YouTube video and is included on the Elektra soundtrack album. Peggy King has worked in films and television with nearly every star imaginable, from Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme (with whom she co-starred on a 50s TV series) to Sammy Davis, Jr. and Andre Previn, and her dozens of recordings through the years show just why she remains a favorite of America's finest composers and lyricists. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: BEN CASSARA: SISTER MOON CD RELEASE SHOW

Ben Cassara celebrates the release of his CD Sister Moon at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesday, April 9th at 9:30 pm. Backed by a jazz quartet headed by Tedd Firth on key boards, Iris Ornig on bass, Harry Allen on sax and Ronen Itzik on drums, the show will feature selections from the Great American Songbook such as Rogers and Hart's "Nobody's Heart" and Bob Dorough's "Devil May Care" to more contemporary songs such as Sting's "Sister Moon" all done with Cassara's intimate, bluesy swinging approach. Born and raised in NYC, Ben Cassara began singing around the family piano and went on to performing in both church and high school choirs which culminated in a televised performance at Carnegie Hall at the age of 16. Cassara tried his hand at theater and after college performed in numerous Off -Off Broadway productions. However, music was his first love, so he began performing in piano bars and clubs all around the city and in the tri-state area. After a time, Cassara realized he'd prefer to be a "front man" and a few years back, started working with jazz pianist, Tedd Firth. Ben's debut CD features arrangements by Cassara and Firth with two additional NYC jazz based musicians, David Finck on bass and Bob Mallah on tenor sax. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
