BOSTON: AVI AVITAL AT THE REGATTABAR

GRAMMY-nominated mandolinist Avi Avital will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Tuesday, April 8th at 7:30 pm. Avital is one of the world's most exciting and entrepreneurial young musicians. He is deeply committed to building a fresh legacy for the mandolin through virtuosic performance and exciting new repertoire. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, Mr. Avital released his first recording for the label entitled BACH - a disc of harpsichord and violin concerti arranged for mandolin. A second Deutsche Grammophon release, entitled Between Worlds, is slated for January 2014. Mr. Avital is the first mandolin player to receive a GRAMMY nomination in the category "Best Instrumental Soloist" for his recording of Avner Dorman's Mandolin Concerto with Andrew Cyr and the Metropolis Ensemble. Avi Avital is internationally regarded for his performances at venues including Lincoln Center in New York, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, KKL Luzern, Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and Wigmore Hall in London. TORONTO: ARIA TESOLIN AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Vocal virtuoso and next gen tastemaker Aria Tesolin showcases new music compositions reminiscent of 50s crooner jazz paired with her lucid lyrics that convey the realness and depth of a street poet at THE JAZZ BISTRO(251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, April 8th at 8:00 pm. She is joined by Tien Yeung on piano. Ross MacIntyre on bass and Max Senitt on drums. Between giving old jazz classics new life, revamping modern covers with an original take, and her beguiling breed of pop leaning compositions now playing on radio in 24 countries, Aria and her unforgettable opera pop vocals will deliver a show experience you won't want to miss. TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: FELIX WONG returns

Toronto based jazz pianist Felix Wong returns to THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, April 8th at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Series. Felix began playing the piano at the age of 4. He is a self-taught jazz musician. His many musical influences include Bill Evans, Esperanza Spalding, Michael Brecker, Roy Hargrove, Joshua Redman, Jaco Pastorius and more. He is a former member of the Toronto All-Star Big Band, where he has performed with the legendary Doc Severinsen and Jackie Richardson. He has travelled with the band, performing venues such as Casa Loma, Old Mill Inn, the Beaches International Jazz Festival and more. He is currently a member of the Jazz FM 91.1 Big Band, where he has had the opportunity to perform with Joey Defrancesco. Felix was chosen to be a part of the 2013 Conn-Selmer Centerstage Jazz Band under the direction of Alex Dean, feautring some of the most outstanding young jazz players in Canada. Recently, he also performed in the TD Young Jazz Showcase in Port Hope, under the direction of Denny Christianson, where he opened for the All-Canadian Legends Renee Rosnes, P.J. Perry, Terry Clarke, and Neil Swainson. There is no cover charge.

WASHINGTON DC: CHICK COREA AT BLUES ALLEY

Jazz pianist Chick Corea performs at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Monday & Tuesday, April 7th & 8th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Chick Corea's four decade career is filled with musical experiences which have filled many a page in 20th century music history books. Born Armando Anthony Corea in Chelsea, Massachusetts on June 12, 1941, Chick was studying piano by age four and enjoyed a childhood home filled with the sounds of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Lester Young and Horace Silver - not to mention the likes of Beethoven and Mozart, who inspired Chick's compositional instincts. Call for cover/minimum information.

D.C.: BOHEMIAN CAVERNS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: THAD WILSON QUINTET

The Thad Wilson Quintet will take over as "Artist in Residence" at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm in April. One need not dig too deep into our areas jazz scene before coming across the name Thad Wilson. Since coming to D.C. in 1997, Wilson has become a mainstay in the jazz clubs of U Street and beyond by consistently performing with passion, intensity, and consummate artistry in a variety of settings. In addition to his own considerable abilities, his groups feature some of the finest players in the D.C. area. Thad hails from Elizabeth N.J. (7 miles from Manhattan). There, he spent many nights in NYC, playing at jam sessions at the Village Door, Village Gate, Blue Note, West End Cafe, Visiones, Smalls, and attending every performance he could get to on the subway. He played with many of the greats such as James Moody, Benny Golson, Arnie Lawrence, Cecil Bridgewater, Vanessa Ruben, Ted Curson, and many others. These experiences led to Thad touring the world as a trumpeter and guest artist. His worldwide appearances include Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia; Paris, France; Antigua, Guatemala; Puebla and Mexico City, Mexico; the D.C. Jazz Festival; Atlanta Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz Festival and many other cities around the world. In 2003, Thad performed his original suite, Reflections on Romare, at the National Gallery of Art's Romare Bearden exhibition opening in 2005. In 2006 and 2007, he served as Program Director for The National Gallery of Art's Jazz in the Garden summer concert series. In 2008, Thad went on the road with the musical production, Ella, which chronicled the life and times of Ella Fitzgerald. He played the role of Donnie and was featured in the play performing a musical impression of Louis Armstrong. Currently, in addition to composing and touring, Thad teaches Jazz Studies at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. There is a $10 cover.
