CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: JOHN PIZZARELLI QUARTET WITH SPECIAL GUEST JANE MONHEIT
John Pizzarelli Quartet with special guest Jane Monheit will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Saturday & Sunday, January 11th & 12th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Using performers like Nat "King" Cole, Frank Sinatra and Joao Gilberto and the songs of composers from Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin to James Taylor, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Lennon & McCartney as touchstones, John Pizzarelli has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook and beyond, bringing to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliant guitar playing and singing. Monheit's sense of liberation is apparent throughout The Heart Of The Matter, the acclaimed, Grammy-nominated vocalist's ninth studio album. It can be felt in her wide- ranging choice of material, in the unique arrangements, and in her own fearless performances and interpretations. The diverse and very personal set of songs includes both familiar standards and compositions by Lennon/McCartney, Randy Newman, two songs by Ivan Lins, recorded in the original Portuguese, and, for the first time, a Monheit original. There is a $20-$35 cover.
