NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI
Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. NYC: BRUNCH AT THE BLUE NOTE WITH JoANNE BRACKEEN WITH GUESTS
Known as "the Picasso of Jazz Piano," JoAnne Brackeen will be performing for Sunday Jazz Brunch at 11:30 am atTHE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592). JoAnne is consistently ranked by critics and jazz magazines as one of the best jazz pianists in the world, along with Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea. Her writing is remarkable for its creativity, stylistic range, emotional depth, and whimsical spirit. Her storied career does indeed invite parallels to Picasso; like the great visual artist, she has consistently defied convention, remaking herself and her art many times over. Her playing is virtuosic and wholly unpredictable, dense and richly detailed, rhythmically advanced and consistently, effortlessly swinging. $29.50 includes brunch, music and a drink.
TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST BRUNCH SERIES: LORENZO POLESE DUO
Lorenzo Polese will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, January 12th at 12:30 pm as part of the clubs Young Artist Brunch Series. Lorenzo Polese is a Toronto-based saxophonist and composer and is currently a student studying Jazz Performance at York University. Having a love for all types of music, Lorenzo has worked with multiple groups and genres ranging from Jazz, Rhythm and blues to Bollywood. While also teaching music privately, Lorenzo has worked at public teaching facilities such as The National Music Camp of Canada. Lorenzo has studied with many instructors including: Ryan Oliver, Carlos Amaran, Ken Meyer, Tara Davidson, Sundar Viswanathan and Kelly Jefferson. In February 2013, Lorenzo started his own quintet "Glass Act". A vocal group that performs arrangements based on classic artists such as: Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra to modern day jazz artists like: Emilie-Claire Barlow, and Sara Gazarek. Lorenzo can also be seen playing around the Toronto area with his Trio "The LP3". No cover - tips appreciated.
