CABARET TONIGHT IN SF: LAURA MVULA AT YOSHI'S
Nominee for the 2013 BRITs Critics' Choice Award and ranked highly in fourth place for the BBC Sound of 2013, Laura Mvula will perform atYOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, September 15th at 8:00 pm to celebrate the release of new single, 'That's Alright' through RCA Victor (Sony). 'That's Alright', is a sassy stomping hymn to empowerment, infused with big crescendo of brass which The Guardian proclaim, "could well become a summer anthem." The classically trained, singer-songwriter's music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Bjork amongst others. A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-old is a unique collision of her Caribbean background and classical music. There is a $20 cover.
