CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: OLIVER LAKE BIG BAND AT DIZZY'S
The Oliver Lake Big Band will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Tuesday, September 17th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Composer, arranger, poet, bandleader, and saxophonist Oliver Lake is a true renaissance man, most widely recognized as a composer and as an explosive, piercing saxophonist. For his birthday celebration at Dizzy's, he brings one of his world-renowned ensembles, the Oliver Lake Big Band, with whom he recently released the critically-acclaimed Wheels. Band members include: Trombones: Aaron Johnson, Terry Greene, Stafford Hunter, Alfred Patterson; Alto Saxophones: Darius Jones, Bruce Williams; Tenor Saxophones: James Stewart, Mike Lee; Baritone Saxophone: Jason Marshall; Trumpets: Josh Evans, Tatum Greenblatt, Nabate Ilses, Freddie Hendrix; Piano: Yoichi Uzeki; Drums: Chris Beck; Acoustic Bass: Robert Sabin. While definitely on the wild, modern side of big band jazz, Lake mostly keeps his music accessible enough for fans of the traditional big band sound, as well as those with an affinity for jazz's more experimental possibilities.
