CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: BERKLEE GLOBAL JAZZ AMBASSADORS WITH JOE LOVANO
The Berklee Global Jazz Ambassadors, under the artistic direction of GRAMMY Award winner Danilo Perez, will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, September 16th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The band is the premier music ensemble of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. With the help of saxophone virtuoso Joe Lovano, another GRAMMY Award recipient, the ensemble will perform John Coltrane's incredibly challenging Interstellar Space, originally recorded right before Coltrane's death in 1967 and released posthumously in 1974. The original recording is a collection of mostly free saxophone and drum duets, making this upcoming performance quite an unusual and brave undertaking for an ensemble. How they choose to handle the material is yet to be heard, but it is safe to say that this will be something totally different, made for audiences as adventurous as the musicians on the record and onstage. There is a $35 cover.
