TORONTO CABARET TONIGHT: JEANNETTE LAMBERT AND REG SCHWAGER QUARTET AT JAZZ BISTRO

TORONTO CABARET TONIGHT: JEANNETTE LAMBERT AND REG SCHWAGER QUARTET AT JAZZ BISTRO

A rare opportunity will be offered to hear Montreal jazz vocalist Jeannette Lambert singing with her brother Reg Schwager at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, July 25th through 27th at 8:00 pm. The band also includes drummer Michel Lambert, Jeannette's husband, pianist David Restivo, whose duo album with Reg has been hailed as world-class, and bassist Ron Seguin, who has recently returned to Canada after many years in Rome. The chemistry of this quintet promises to be intuitive and masterful. The band's repertoire will highlight strong group playing within cinematic and evocative jazz standards and originals, as story-telling is always at the heart of Jeannette's song selections. Born to Dutch-Indonesian parents and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Jeannette Lambert began singing professionally in coffee shops at the age of 12. Living near Queen Street, Toronto when she was a teenager, she went out regularly to listen to live performances by Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, Bill Evans, Chet Baker and Jon Hendricks and countless other important jazz artists. At the same time she also followed punk and alternative music closely, heading out to see concerts by the Clash, Gil Scott-Heron, and Billy Bragg. Now an accomplished artist in her own right, she performs internationally as well as recording regularly and moves easily from straight ahead jazz to improvised music. One of the co-founders of the Jazz from Rant music label, she's produced nine albums as a leader, including Born to Blue, a collection of jazz ballads, and Sand Underfoot, featuring Paul Bley. Call for cover/minimum information.
