CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: MARLENE VERPLANCK AT THE KITANO
Jazz vocalist Marlene VerPlanck will perform on Thursday, July 25th at THE KITANO HOTEL'S GARDEN CAFE(66 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-885-7119 - ) to celebrate her new CD 'Ballads ... Mostly'. She is joined by Tedd Firth - piano, Jay Leonhart - bass and Ron Vincent - drumsMarlene VerPlanck enjoys the admiration of a legion of fans, and peers as well. She collaborated throughout her long career with her husband, arranger, composer, and conductor Billy Ver Planck. Her 17th album, My Impetuous Heart, reunited her with old friends Hank Jones, George Shearing, Marian McPartland and Bucky Pizzarelli. Millions of people first heard Ver Planck's voice doing jingles in the '60s: "Weekends were made for Michelob/Yeah!" and "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should!" and "Mmm good/mm-mm good/that's what Campbell's Soups are/mm mm good." Today Marlene travels the world performing at concerts and festivals. This will be her third appearance in the Sarasota area, where she has quickly developed a devoted following. There is a $10 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
