TONIGHT NYC: SARAH ELIZABETH CHARLES AT DIZZY'S
Vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles will perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, July 22nd with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. She is joined by Jesse Elder, Piano; John Davis, Drums; Rashaan Carter, Bass. Sarah is new to the scene as a leader, but she's quickly turning heads and for good reason. Her vocals simultaneously sound effortless and full of emotion, with impeccable phrasing and some tricks up her sleeve that are impressive without being flashy. Charles' debut album, Red, includes a few uniquely crafted originals, re-workings of Haitian folklore, and a refreshingly unusual rendition of "How Insensitive." This adventurous young singer has nowhere to go but up, and her band completes and elevates what is already a distinct and arresting sound. There is a $25 cover.
