NYC: JOHN SCOFIELD "HOLLOW BODY BAND" AT BIRDLAND
The John Scofield "Hollow Body Band" featuring Ben Street (bass) & Bill Stewart (drums) will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, April 16th through 20th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. John Scofield is part of a generation of jazz guitarists including Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Mike Stern and Bill Frisell who combined the stylistic influences of Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery with the electric sounds of rock and roll. Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser whose music falls somewhere between post-bop, funk and electric jam band jazz. After a debut recording with Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker, Scofield was a member of the Billy Cobham-George Duke band for two years. In 1977 he recorded with Charles Mingus, and joined the Gary Burton quartet. From 1982-1985, Scofield toured and recorded with Miles Davis. Since 1978, he has led his own groups and recorded over 30 albums as a leader, including collaborations with Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Eddie Harris, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Bill Frisell, Brad Mehldau, Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano and others. Scofield's Hollowbody Band pairs him with Mike Stern who also played with Billy Cobham and Miles Davis, as well as Blood, Sweat & Tears before embarking on a solo career that has produced over fifteen albums and global critical acclaim. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
