NE: LOUISE VAN AARSEN QUINTET AT JOCKO'S JAZZ
Louise Van Aarsen performs at JOCKO'S JAZZ (34 Bates Street, Methuen, MA - 603-898-1591 - ) on Tuesday, April 16th from 7:30 - 10:30 pm. She will be backed by a fabulous foursome featuring Mike Turk (jazz harmonica), Paul McWilliams (piano), Peter Kontrimas (bass), and James Lattini (drums), and joined by special guests Ted Davis and Rebecca Parris. Louise Van Aarsen-Koopman, a Dutch native, has had a passion for music, vocal jazz in particular, since her teenage years. She moved to Boston with a Ph.D. in cancer biology to further novel cancer therapies. In parallel, she has never ceased to develop her talent as a singer through intensive vocal training and performances. Over the past few years, she has been writing her own melodies and lyrics; poignant stories and catchy compositions with a unique 'jazz standard-esque' flavor. In a wonderful collaboration with Ton Scheer, Doug Hammer and Rebecca Parris, this work has culminated in an impressive debut CD DESTINY recorded with some of Boston's finest jazz musicians at Peter Kontrimas' PBS Studios! Destiny is getting glowing reviews. There is a $10 cover.
