NYC: BROADWAY'S DANIEL REICHARD AT BIRDLAND
The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce Broadway and concert star Daniel Reichard will be appearing at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, August 4th at 7:00 pm. Reichard, who has performed dozens of sold-out engagements all over New York City throughout the years, will be making his solo debut at Birdland with this show. The evening of music will feature treasured hits by classic songwriters. The evening of treasured songs will feature songs by iconic songwriters such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Johnny Mercer, Burt Bacharach, Paul Simon, and Jason Mraz. Reichard will be joined onstage by a band of five musicians. Daniel Reichard, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, is best known for his portrayal of chief songwriter and original Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio in the box-office smash Jersey Boys, a role he originated both on Broadway and in the La Jolla Playhouse premiere. He followed Jersey Boys with a critically acclaimed performance as Candide in Leonard Bernstein's Candide at the New York City Opera. Currently, he is touring the continent with his former Jersey Boys colleagues as The Midtown Men, a highly successful vocal group that has performed over 300 major concerts together.
NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT
Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: QUINCY JONES PRESENTS: NIKKI YANOFSKY & ANDREAS VARADY ALBUM RELEASES
Quincy Jones Presents: Nikki Yanofsky & Andreas Varady Album at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, August 4th at with shows at 7:00 & 10:30 pm. NOTE: Show will start promptly at 7:00 pm tonight. The show features Headliner jazz vocalist Nikki Yanofsky. Opening act for the 7:00 pm show, is guitarist Andreas Varady and Special Guests. At just 19 years old, Nikki Yanofsky has topped both jazz and pop charts, performed with orchestras and big bands, and sold out festivals and major theatres around the world; in 2010, she sang to 3.2 billion people (half the world's population) at the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. She has worked with luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, Phil Ramone, Will.i.am, Wyclef Jean, and Elton John, and now, under the guidance of her greatest fan and mentor, Quincy Jones, Nikki is ready to introduce her own captivating new sound. Nikki's second studio album, Little Secret, to be released later this summer, combines pop-song structures with sophisticated harmonies, club-ready beats with punchy big-band horns, and earworm hooks with scat-singing solos. It's all held together by her powerful delivery, as well as a newfound sass. Jazz aficionados and pop lovers alike will find themselves irresistibly lured in. Andreas Varady (7:00 pm show only), a just-turned-16-year-old guitar sensation, has risen to the foreground of the jazz guitar arena. Andreas started his ascent to mastering jazz guitar at a very young age. Born of Hungarian Gypsy descent, Andreas was raised in a small town in Slovakia and first began to play the guitar at four years old, tutored by his father, Bandi. Andreas was taught to learn songs by ear; his first tune the "Blue Bossa" jazz standard, and from then on he has continued to pursue the world of jazz music. Andreas has idolized his guitar hero George Benson, and from his early years has often been compared to the guitar legend. There is a $15-$25 cover.
NYC: HAMILTON DE HOLANDA WITH SPECIAL GUEST ANAT COHEN AT DIZZY'S
Hamilton De Holanda, mandolin, and Anat Cohen, clarinet, will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, August 4th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Widely considered the top instrumentalist in Brazil, Latin GRAMMY Award nominee De Holanda has spent a career reinventing his instrument of choice, the 10-string mandolin. By masterfully interweaving choro, jazz, samba, and much more, De Holanda synthesizes traditional styles into an open framework that highlights his virtuosic abilities. This approach makes him a perfect match for the genre-crossing clarinetist Anat Cohen. Cohen has been voted Clarinetist of Year by the Jazz Journalists Assocation for six consecutive years, and she has topped both critics and readers polls in DownBeat magazine for the last several years.
