SAN FRANCISCO: MORRIS DAY AND THE TIME AT YOSHI'S

The legendary, pimpadelic funk master, Morris Day, best known as the break out star of rock movie sensation Purple Rain, is returning to YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) for two nights of FUNK on Thursday & Friday, August 7th & 8th at 8:00 pm - with a second show on Thursday at 10:00 pm. Morris Day returns as the freakalicious frontman for one of the all-time greatest party bands and reunites with The Time's original bandmates, valet/vocalist Jerome Benton, Drummer Jellybean Johnson and keyboard artist Monte Moir to present past favorites such as "Jungle Love," "Get it Up," and "The Bird," as well as four new tracks including "My Ride," "Ain't a Damn Thing Changed," and "Two Drink Minimum." The Time was originally created as Prince's alter-ego to be seen as the cool, street-wise funk band contrasting Prince's more soulful R&B sound. After looking at several lead vocalists, Prince wanted someone with mad talent so he cast his high school friend - the funky, the fabulous Morris Day. Soon after, Morris Day and the Time were cast in Purple Rain which captured the exploding Minneapolis music scene at its peak. There is a $30-$45 cover.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: OPERATION OPERA AT FEINSTEIN'S

Operation Opera, the MAC Award-winning super hit of the Edinburgh Festival, will perform a limited two-week engagement at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) Thursdays through Sundays, July 31st through August 10th. Thursday & Friday shows are at 8:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday shows at 7:00 pm. Starring renowned opera singer Adelmo Guidarelli, and featuring Miss Ruby Laurance and Seth Weinstein, Operation Opera delights audiences with virtuoso operatic singing and paralyzes them with laughter while taking an inspiring journey into a world of music and comedy that critics have compared to Victor Borge. A fun-filled cross between tradition and innovation, Operation Opera enchants audiences with its edgy, sometimes sexy, song-filled modern day extravaganza of classical comedy. There is a $35-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
