BOSTON: ALEX SNYDMAN NEW TRIO AT THE REGATTABAR

The Alex Snydman New Trio will appear at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Thursday, August 7th at 7:30 pm. Drummer Alex Snydman launched himself onto the modern jazz landscape with his debut album entitled Fortunate Action which released in 2013. Snydman made a surprising yet decisive switch from guitar to drums in 2003. Since that time, he has sought out a veritable who's who of modern jazz to study with. This list includes Eric Harland, Gregory Hutchinson, John Riley, Bob Gullotti, Joe LaBarbera, Damion Reid, and Alan Hall. Alex has performed at major jazz clubs and festivals on the East and West Coasts as a leader and sideman. He has shared the stage with artists such as Grammy winner Charles Neville, Larry Koonse, Grace Kelly, Avery Sharpe, Joe Sanders, Felipe Salles, Miro Sprague, Tatum Greenblatt, Chris Pattishall, Carl Clements, Geoff Vidal and many more. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Jazz Performance at The California Institute of the Arts, while maintaining a bi-coastal performance schedule. Alex also teaches students of a variety of ages and levels, and finds great joy in aiding in developing their talents. There is a $20 cover.

Anthony Strong will open the late summer season atSCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Thursday, August 7th at 8:00 pm. Hailed as "England's new jazz superstar", a support slot with the legendary BB King and an EP release which reached #1 on the UK jazz charts saw singer-pianist Anthony Strong grab the attention of some of the world's top record labels in early 2012. His recent CD "Stepping Out" is on the French label Naive. Call for cover/minimum information.

TORONTO: MYRIAD3 CD RELEASE AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

The band Myriad3 will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, August 7th through 9th at 8:00 pm. The forming of the band was an accident. Chris, Dan, and Ernesto had never played together until a few substitutions and a twist of fate put them on stage together for the first time in late 2010. Since then, the trio has completed multiple tours of Canada, the US and Europe, including opening for Earth, Wind & Fire at the Ottawa Jazz Festival in 2014. The band is a true collective. Each member acts simultaneously as a leader and a sideman. They play mostly original music that features different aspects of jazz improvisation, ensemble playing and contemporary composition. Myriad3 is modern jazz, meets classical, meets pop, meets Oscar Peterson. In June 2014, Myriad3 released their second album, The Where on Universal/Alma Records. Chris Donnelly represents a new generation of jazz pianists, composers and improvisers dedicated to creating programs that are engaging, entertaining and educating. Daniel Fortin was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto's Jazz Performance Program in 2007. Since moving to Toronto, Dan has been an active member of the city's music scene. Drummer Ernesto Cervini is making a name for himself as a consummate bandleader and in-demand sideman, repeatedly praised for his deeply musical, infectiously energetic talents. There is a $10-$12 cover.
