BOSTON: THE STEVE SWALLOW, OHAD TALMOR, ADAM NUSSBAUM TRIO

The trio of saxophonist Ohad Talmor, bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Adam Nussbaum will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Tuesday, August 5th at 7:30 pm. This trio does not tour often, and U.S. performances are an especially rare treat. Following their successful 6th project "L'Histoire du Clochard", Steve Swallow and Ohad Talmor teamed up with in demand drummer Adam Nussbaum for this Trio created in 2008 and recorded the CD, "Playing in Traffic." Presenting original compositions written by all three musicians, this group playfully explores their music beyond stylistic genres or boundaries. Their first European tour in the Fall of 2008 yielded praises such as winning the "Jazz Performance of the Year." There is a $25 cover.

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: AARON ZUKEWICH

Aaron Zukewich, musician and composer, will appear at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday & Wednesday, August 5th & 6th at 6:00 pm as part of the clubs Young Artist series. Aaron grew up playing his Grandmother's piano in Niagara Ontario. He attended Grimsby secondary School, where under the guidance of inspirational music teacher Mark Saresky, he decided to pursue music studies at University. It was also at this time that he first began studying alto saxophone with local jazz saxophonist Harry Garber and found a passion for jazz music. In working towards a music preformance degree from York University Aaron was privaledged to study with two of Canada's top jazz talents, Mike Murley and Kelly Jefferson; and had opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles on saxophone and piano, including York's jazz orchestra, Wind Symphony and Latin Ensemble. Through these he studied and performed with many great musicians, and was especially influence by Kevin Turcotte and Lorne Lofsky. In addition to his solo piano work, Aaron put together the "Hands Together Tio", a Niagara Based jazz group that performs his original, contemporary compositions. No cover charge.

TORONTO: BEN HOGNESTAD TRIO AT JAZZ BISTRO

Pianist Ben Hognestad, bassist Malcolm Connor and drummer Evan Cartwright will appear at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, August 5th at 8:00 pm. They are about to enter their sixth year playing together in trio format. The three musicians first met on 2009 while studying music at the University of Toronto, and formed a group shortly thereafter. Hailing from Regina, Winnipeg and Toronto respectively, each member brings a unique voice and perspective to the music. Whether they're playing great american songbook tunes, original compositions or re-imagined covers, the three musicians are always working towards creating an open and communicative rapport. The trio aims to create music with youthful vigour, while maintaining respect and admiration for the history of jazz. There is a $12 cover.
