NYC: "RED HOT MAMA: THE SOPHIE TUCKER FAREWELL TOUR"

Tony nominated Sharon McNight is bringing back her hit show "Red Hot Mama" for one last time. "Red Hot Mama: The Sophie Tucker Farewell Tour" will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday August 3rd at 9:30 pm. The comic singer originally performed this show, with a sold out run at the fabled Rainbow in Stars back in 1996. She followed that with a four-month, Off-Broadway run at the York Theatre. McNight just completed eight weeks as Mrs. Obrien in the San Francisco Opera's production of "Show Boat," soon to be seen on PBS. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: OUT OF THE BOX BIG BAND WITH VINC SCUDERI

Out Of The Box Big Band With Vinc Scuderi will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, August 3rd at 4:00 pm. Out of the Box Big Band aims to introduce audiences to the big sounds of Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones and Sammy Nestico. While not completely avoiding the classics, (Charlie Barnett included), it's the more modern, sophisticated language that Vince and his band mates swing to. Out of the Box Big Band consists of a rotating line-up of seasoned, professional and up and coming NY jazz talent. Their combined experience runs the gamut from Broadway to Buble. Vince's special guest is critically acclaimed jazz singer, Martha Lorin. Martha is an exciting performer. She is the winner of a Bistro Award for her NY appearances, a Billboard award winner for her work as a songwriter, and she received a special award for her work with the Milford Music Festival. She was coached by the great singer/actress, Ruth Etting at the start of her career. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: SHANGELA: STRAIGHT OUTTA PARIS

D.J. Pierce, the force of nature also known as Shangela returns to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Friday through Monday, August 1st through 4th at 7:30 pm with an all-new show. Straight Outta Paris, Loud Country & Outta Control! Beginning August 1st you can catch the hilarious one-woman show packed with songs, dance and laughter. There is a $22-$40 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

NYC: DREAM ON REVUE AT THE DUPLEX

A cabaret revue called 'Dream On' will be presented at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Sunday, August 3rd at 9:30 pm. In the show, six women explore their hopes, goals, and ambitions on a search for meaning in New York City. Featuring Erica Cenci, Kara Guy, Claire Kuttler, Kristen Sweeney, Erica Wilpon, and Sarah Ziegler. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: A CONVERSATION WITH MUSIC WITH STEPHEN SCHWARTZ & JIM BROCHU

On Sunday, August 3rd at 7:00 pm, two of Broadway's legendary composers sit down with Drama Desk Award-winner Jim Brochu (Zero Hour, Character Man, The Big Voice: God or Merman) to discuss their life's work at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551). Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, The Apple Tree) & Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell) are collectively the backbone of the Broadway showtune. One by one, Brochu will explore their creative lives and inspirations, histories and even their futures. Interspersed throughout the conversation, they will welcome some of Broadway & cabaret's most esteemed voices who will present some of each composer's most treasured compositions. Performers include Darius de Haas (Rent, Carousel, original cast of Children of Eden), Michael McCorry Rose (Wicked) and Kelli Rabke (Les Miz, original cast of Children of Eden). There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: SUSIE MOSHER IN THE GREAT DAISY THEORY

The hilarious Susie Mosher (Hairspray, NEWSical) returns to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, August 3rd at 9:30 pm to perform her critically acclaimed solo show for one night only! The Great Daisy Theory is a high energy musical memoir about Mosher's growing up years in suburban California, bouncing between divorced parents. Bearing witness to her mother's alcoholism and her father's immersion in the hippie movement, she finds her escape in musical theater, & dreams of life upon the Broadway stage. With music ranging from James Taylor to Coldplay, Camelot to Jesus Christ Superstar, Mosher tells her personal tale with rare candor, highlighted by her off-the-wall humor and heartfelt emotion. Directed by Matt Lenz (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, Pageant) with musical direction by John Boswell. There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: MARK JANAS' SALON: YOU'RE GETTING ON MY NERVES - PEOPLE, PLACES & THINGS THA T IRRITATE

SALON - that unique, Multiple Award Winning, Weekly Open Mic Event, created and hosted by Mark Janas continues atETCETERA ETCETERA(352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) on Sundays from 7:00 to 10:30 pm (sign-up begins at 6:15 pm). The optional theme for Sunday evening July 27th is "You're Getting On My Nerves - People, Places & Things That Irritate". Guest Host is Barry Levitt. Co-Host will be Dana Lorge. Remember, any material, on or off theme, is always welcome at Salon. There are no reservations; seating is on a first come/ first served basis, with one intermission. This week David will have an In-Studio Interview with songwriter John Bucchino. Each week David presents the usual blend of big-band jazz, swing, standards, showtunes, contemporary cabaret and celebrity interviews plus MEGA-MEDLEY MADNESS. Summer Programming began in July and continues through August. This summer's programming will be VERY different than any other summer in their 36 years. Never before has the playlist been so flexible. It will be a completely relaxed Free-Form format, allowing you to enjoy more music.
