HERNDON, VA: NEXTSTOP THEATRE SUMMER CABARET SERIES - DARDEN PURCELL

NextStop Theatre Company has announced the next bold, new offering in their ambitious inaugural season atNEXTSTOP THEATRE (269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon, VA - 866-811-4111). Under the leadership of Series Producer, area based performing artist Jim Van Slyke, the company will present eighteen intimate concerts, featuring a eclectic mixture of Broadway stars, nationally acclaimed cabaret artists and some of the finest local singers in the DC Metropolitan area. Running from Friday, July 11th to Saturday, August 16th in the company's 114-seat black box theatre, audiences will be invited to grab a drink or snack from the bar and be transported for evenings featuring classics from musical theatre, jazz, rock, soul and even current hits. On Friday, August 8th at 8:00 pm Darden Purcell will perform at NextStop. Dr. Purcell is a Northern Virginia based jazz vocalist. She has performed with big bands and jazz ensembles all over the world, has sung back up for Ben Folds, George Benson and serves as the Director of Jazz Studies at George Mason University.

NEW HOPE: ANGEL OF MUSIC: A SALUTE TO ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER

Acclaimed Broadway Veterans, Franc D'Ambrosio and Glory Crampton celebrate the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at THE RRAZZ ROOM IN NEW HOPE (6426 Lower York Road, New Hope, PA - 888-596-1027) on Thursday through Sunday, August 7th through 10th at 8:00 pm. WASHINGTON, DC: "THE BRIGHTER SIDE OF DAY" WITH SISTER SLEDGE

"A Brighter Side of Day" the tribute to Billie Holiday starring Kathy Sledge (Sister Sledge) will be presented at is atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Friday & Saturday, August 8th & 9th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. "A Brighter Side of Day" is a musical journey of an American icon of her day who rose to become a social phenomenon in the 1950s. Holiday's soulful, unique singing voice and her ability to boldly turn any material that she confronted into her own music made her a superstar of her time. Today, Kathy Sledge celebrates Billie's masterpieces, creativity and vivacity, through the channeling of her songs, which are as well known today as they were decades ago. Travel back with Ms. Sledge as she delivers a reincarnation of Lady Day's poignant voice: A style still considered to be one of the greatest jazz voices of all time. WASHINGTON, DC: CHRISTIE DASHIELL AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

Contemporary jazz vocalist Christie N. Dashiell performs at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Friday & Saturday, August 8th & 9th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Greenville, NC, Christie returned to hone her skills at Howard University and, later, The Manhattan School of Music. Dashiell's history includes performances with Howard's premiere vocal jazz ensemble, Afro-Blue. She has also performed at the Kennedy Center as a participant of the 2010 Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead residency program, Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C, and as a part of Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jazz for Young People program. She is the recipient of Downbeat magazine's Best College Graduate Jazz Vocalist and Outstanding Soloist awards in the jazz vocal category. Most recently, Dashiell appeared on season three of NBC's "The Sing-Off," as a member of Afro-Blue. There is an $23 cover.

BETHESDA, MD: DOC SCANTLIN & HIS IMPERIAL PALMS ORCHESTRA

Doc Scantlin & His Imperial Palms Orchestra will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Friday, August 8th at 8:00 pm. Big Band leader Doc Scantlin whirls, fifteen musicians swing back and forth with their instruments. Everyone's dancing with smiles on their faces brought on by the infectious energy dapper Doc Scantlin exudes in his white tie, tails, spats and slicked down hair. He beckons you back in time to a Harlem nightclub with his "Bandanna Babies," dancing girls gyrating sensuously in the flirty chorus girl outfits. Or to some elegant, romantic ballroom with his soloist in her long evening gown caressing the microphone singing a sultry ballad. Or to the left bank, with Little Chou Chou the effervescent cabaret singer, singing and weaving among the tables as patrons blow bubbles or feel the magic of her wand. Doc's whole ensemble offers a memorable evening of musical entertainment. From the 1920's speakeasy numbers such as "Puttin' On The Ritz" and the "Charleston" through the romantic, elegant 1930's.
