NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. No cover, no minimum.

NYC: EAST MEETS WEST BRUNCH SERIES: KYOKO OYOBE GROUP

The Japanese-born pianist, composer Kyoko Oyobe will perform at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) for Sunday Brunch on April 27th with performances at 11:30 & 1:30 pm. She is joined by David King, drums; Francois Moutin, bass; and Chris Speed, tenor sax & clarinet. Kyoko has been a mainstay in the New York jazz scene since 2005. She started playing piano at the age of four. At the age of 17 her mother started inviting famous Japanese musicians, such as Terumasa Hino to give concerts at their home. At the age of 19 she was greatly inspired by a live performance of Kensaku Tanikawa and began playing jazz piano. In 2000 she started traveling to New York. She studied underFrank Hewitt, Jean Michel Pilc and Gil Coggins. In October 2005 she moved to New York and it didn't take long for Kyoko to make her mark. She started performing with her own group at New York City's renowned jazz clubs, such as Smalls Jazz Club and Fat Cat. In December 2008 she made a live recording of her original music with the group, Kyoko Oyobe Trio at Smalls Jazz Club that gave birth to the album, "Cookin' at Smalls" released in 2009. For the past five years she has been composing and arranging for her trio with Michael O'Brien and Clifford Barbaro with who she plays regularly in the New York area and also tours with in Japan. As her musical compositions evolved, she recently crafted a new vehicle for her prolific writing and arranging skills with The Kyoko Oyobe Quartet featuring Steve Wilson, Michael O'Brien and Matt Wilson; an open and adventurous musical collaboration that render a magical performance. TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST BRUNCH SERIES: EMILY STEINWALL DUO

The Emily Steinwell Duo (Emily Steinwall - tenor saxophone, Ewen Farncombe - piano) will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, April 27th at 12:30 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Brunch Series. Saxophonist Emily Steinwall was born in Toronto in 1995, and is currently in her first year at Humber College working towards a Bachelors degree in Music Performance. She is a graduate of Malvern Collegiate Institute, where she first tried the saxophone. During her last two years of high school, Emily participated in the Humber College Community School and Honour Combo Programs. She was also a member of the the JazzFM Youth Big Band and Musicfest Canada's National Honour Combo. Through these programs, Emily has had the privilege and opportunity of sharing the stage with many world-class musicians, including Rich Perry, Ben Monder, Lew Tabackin, Al Kay, Tom Scott, and has studied with many of Canada's greatest jazz musicians, including: Kirk Macdonald, Alex Dean, Seamus Blake, Mike Murley, Lorne Lofsky, Dave Neill, and Andy Ballantyne. Emily hopes to one day forge her career within the excellent Canadian jazz community. There is no cover charge.

BETHESDA, MD: SUNDAY BRUNCH WITH THE GOSPEL PERSUADERS

Enjoy Sunday Brunch with The Gospel Persuaders atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Sunday, April 27th at 11:00 am or 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 27th. Phil Johnson started a career in gospel music by forming a group known as The Gospel Persuaders on Mother's Day, May of 1994. The Gospel Persuaders have become a very successful gospel music ministry performing city-to-city, state-to-state. Their latest CD Living for Christ was produced by Shurfine Gospel Record Company, Benson, NC and was released in 2004. The Gospel Persuaders are currently working on their new project to be released soon. There is a $17.50-$35 cover.
