BOSTON: THE REGATTABAR PRESENTS KEVIN HARRIS PROJECT

In a very special follow-up concert to his most recent album, "Museum Vol. 1", New York based pianist Kevin Harris will present new "music exhibits" inspired by his continuous exploration of both visual and poetic art forms atTHE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, May 3rd at 7:30 pm . An exceptional set of musicians from Boston and New York, Frank Lacy, Jason Palmer, Edward Perez, and Steve Langone, will accompany Harris on this latest project. Most recently Harris has been present on the national and international scene alongside Greg Osby, Francisco Mela, Avishai Cohen, Eddie Gomez, Jerry Bergonzi, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tommy Campbell, and Strongly believing that communication is what we thrive off as human beings, Harris promises that these new "exhibits" will capture, once again, the attention of his audience's soul. TORONTO: SATURDAY AFTERNOON YOUNG ARTIST SERIES WITH THE SAM DICKINSON DUO

Pianist Sam Dickinson performs at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 - ) on Saturday, Ma3rd at 12:30 pm as part of the clubs Saturday Afternoon Young Artist Series. Sam Dickinson began piano when he was 5, then switched to guitar at the age of 8. He was in the Humber College Community Music program for 6 years beginning in 2004. Sam has played at venues all over Canada as well as in Manhattan, Boston, Washington DC, Louisville, around the Burgundy area of France, and in Atina Italy, sharing the stage with the likes of Danilo Perez, Jerry Bergonzi, Jack DeJohnette, Pat LaBarbara and Kirk MacDonald. He has studied with musicians like Mick Goodrick, Ben Monder, Brad Shepik, Ted Quinlan, Lorne Lofsky, David Occhipinti, Geoff Young, and Emile D'eon. There is no cover.

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: AARON ZUKEWICH

Aaron Zukewich, musician and composer, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 - ) on Saturday, May 3rd at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist series. Aaron grew up playing his Grandmother's piano in Niagara Ontario. He attended Grimsby secondary School, where under the guidance of inspirational music teacher Mark Saresky, he decided to pursue music studies at University. It was also at this time that he first began studying alto saxophone with local jazz saxophonist Harry Garber and found a passion for jazz music. In working towards a music preformance degree from York University Aaron was privaledged to study with two of Canada's top jazz talents, Mike Murley and Kelly Jefferson; and had opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles on saxophone and piano, including York's jazz orchestra, Wind Symphony and Latin Ensemble. Through these he studied and performed with many great musicians, and was especially influence by Kevin Turcotte and Lorne Lofsky. In addition to his solo piano work, Aaron put together the "Hands Together Tio", a Niagara Based jazz group that performs his original, contemporary compositions. There is no cover.

TORONTO: RUDY SMITH QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Port of Spain, Trinidad native Rudy Smith will perform atTHE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, May 1st through 3rd at 9:00 pm. Smith played his first pan at age six. Largely self-taught, as a teenager he witnesssed and heard some of the greatest pan players: Dudley Smith, Evris Barquain, Theo Stephens, Neville Jules, Spree Simon, Ernest Ferreira, Emanuel Jack Riley, Belgrave Bonaparte, Eamon Thorpe, Gerald Forsythe, Alfred "Sack" Mayers and many many more in my hall of steel pan heroes. These artists had a profound effect on Smith's aspirations. He perfected his unique style by studying jazz luminaries: Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, Oscar Peterson and John Coltrane. Mr. Smith has toured internationally and has performed at some of the major clubs and jazz festivals in the USA, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. In a career spanning six decades, alto steel pan player Rudy Smith has built a reputation exploring and bridging the world of jazz with his native instrument, the steel pan, finding in each a sincere spirit of musical expression. In the process, he has performed and recorded with many jazz musicians and artists from almost every corner of the musical universe. There is a $15-$20 cover.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: JOHN PIZZARELLI AT BLUES ALLEY

John Pizzarelli, American jazz guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader, will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, May 1st through 4th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. John Pizzarelli has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook and beyond, bringing to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliant guitar playing and singing. For Pizzarelli though, his hero and foundation was Nat "King" Cole and the comparison to his iconic trio is the highest of compliments. He has had a lengthy career as a recording artist, performing for a variety of labels that include Telarc Records, RCA Records and Chesky Records, among others. He has recorded twenty-three albums of his own, as well as other joint recordings with his father, Bucky Pizzarelli. Additionally, he has appeared on more than forty albums of other recording artists, including those of Sir Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Rosemary Clooney and his wife, Jessica Molaskey.

WASHINGTON, DC: ELIJAH JAMAL BALBED QUINTET AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

The Elijah Jamal Balbed Quintet will perform atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Saturday, May 3rd at 8:00 pm. Saxophonist and composer Elijah Jamal Balbed is a native of Washington, D.C. and has been named Best Tenor Saxophonist (2013) and Best New Jazz Musician (2010) by the Washington City Paper. Elijah cites his many teachers and mentors that steered him in the right direction, to name a few, Joan Rackey, Paul Carr, Charlie Young, and Fred Foss. Balbed's credits reach beyond the district, having performed in cities across the United States, as well as four cities in Japan (Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagano, and Karuizawa). Elijah attended Howard University, where he was a featured soloist in the Howard University Jazz Ensemble (HUJE) and regular member of the HU Jazztet. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: JUNIOR "THE WAILERS" MARVIN AND I&I RIDDIM

On Saturday, May 3rd at 8:00 pm, you are invited to join the (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) as they present, for the very first time, a BOB MARLEY CELEBRATION EXPERIENCE. Junior "The Wailers" Marvin, supertalent from Bob Marley's "WAILERS" band, headlines this show performing the Bob Marley classics, as well as creations from his new CD "Junior Marvin's Force One". And, doubling the excitement of the night, I&I Riddim, Washington DC's #1 Reggae Band, will electrify the club with a Caribbean experience unparalled in the Washington DC area featuring the unique vocal stylings of Nickoli and Mitch Michelin, with national recording artist Earl Carter on lead guitar.
