NYC: STEARNS MATTHEWS ENCORES RELEASE OF HIS DEBUT ALBUM
Stearns Matthews, three-time MAC Award nominee, encores the release of his debut album at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Wednesday, February 11th at 7:00 pm. Stearns has appeared twice at the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Annual Cabaret Convention at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and was the first-ever first runner-up in the Metropolitan Room's MetroStar Talent Challenge in 2008. After raising $17,000 in a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2013, Stearns has been hard at work with musical director Christopher Denny and producer Paul Rolnick on producing his debut album. The show will feature some of the songs from the album as well as a few tunes that didn't make the cut due to time constraints. Consider this the "Special Features" section on the DVD: bits from the cutting room floor, commentary from the artist, and an all-around good time. Theatre composers Stephen Schwartz, Richard Rodgers, and Harold Arlen will all be represented, as well as some from the popular end of the spectrum, like Roger Miller, Burt Bacharach, and Don Gibson. Crafted together with Christopher Denny, the arrangements are at times lush and romantic, at others rousing and exhilarating. Lennie Watts directs. There is a $20 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
