BOSTON: VALENTINE'S DAY WITH NICOLE HENRY AT THE REGATTABAR
Jazz vocalist Nicole Henry will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Valentine's Day, Saturday 14th at 7:30 & 10:00 pm. She is joined by Brandon McCune, piano; Robert Jost, bass; Alvester Garnett, drums and Mike Moreno, guitar. Since her debut in 2004, Nicole Henry has established herself as one of the jazz world's most acclaimed vocalists. Ms. Henry possesses a potent combination of dynamic vocal abilities, impeccable phrasing, and powerful emotional resonance. Her repertoire includes the American Songbook, classic and contemporary jazz titles, contemporary' standards, blues, and originals; while her accompaniment ranges from a simple jazz trio to a full big band. Ms. Henry's passionate, soulful voice and heart-felt charisma has earned her a 2013 Soul Train Award for "Best Traditional Jazz Performance," three Top-10 U.S. Billboard and HMV Japan jazz albums, and rave reviews both domestically and internationally. Ms. Henry has captivated audiences in over 15 countries, headlining at venues in cities including New York, Tokyo, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Miami. She has performed in more than 30 music festivals worldwide and in some of the world's most famous venues including Blue Note, NYC; Jazz at Lincoln Center; Blues Alley; Arsht Center; Feinstein's; Green Mill; Madrid Jazz Festival. TORONTO: VALENTINE'S WEEKEND WITH JUNE GARBER AND THE MARK KIESWETTER TRIO
June Garber and The Mark Kieswetter Trio perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, February 12th through 14th at 9:00 pm. When you watch June sing, you feel as if she is singing directly to you. Her warmth & unmitigated joy at being on stage envelopes you and pulls you close and encircles you with her warmth. Every song that she chooses to sing, connects to a base truth within - so there is never any artifice - only that which is true!Her voice reflects each emotional shift that the writer intended. This is why she sings some of the most complicated and greatest songs ever written: Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Sondheim, Kurt Weill. Whether Growling Out "St. Louis Blues" or revelling in the pure tone of "Here's to Life" - her connection to each song is from her soul! June was born in South Africa, but left there thirty two years ago to settle in Toronto. She performed in Theatres across Canada and has Equity & ACTRA Status. She has toured & performed as a singer in All of the Major Centres in North America i.e. New York, Dallas, Florida, Atlanta, Las Vegas & Atlantic City & also in Cuba, South Africa & Australia.
