NYC: MARILYN MAYE: 7 NIGHTS OF "MARILYN BY REQUEST"
After New Year's Eve, the merry-making continues at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for seven nights between January 2nd and 10th, as Marilyn Maye launches into a run of her hard-partying "By Request" shows. Joining the preternaturally young Maye on her 15th Metropolitan Room engagement are her trio consisting of pianist/conductor Billy Stritch, bassist Tom Hubbard, and drummer Ray Marchica. "Marilyn by Request" plays Friday through Sunday, January 2nd, 3rd and 4th; and Wednesday through Sunday, January 7th through 10th. All shows are at 7:00 pm. Maye is in the midst of one of the most exciting chapters of a storied career. A nightclub mainstay, RCA recording artist and musical theatre actress in the '60s, '70s, and '80s, the "Best New Artist" Grammy nominee (1965) returned to New York in October 2006 after a 15-year absence. At the invitation of the late Donald Smith her epochal Cabaret Convention appearance segued into an unbroken string of sold-out runs at the Metropolitan Room through 2010. It is here that Maye built a new following, introducing an entirely new generation to the fun-loving performance style that once was the hallmark of large rooms and nightclubs across the country. The "By Request" shows have a hard-to-resist music charge of only a $35 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: DONNIE KEHR'S ROCKIN' DUELING PIANOS THURSDAYS
Donnie Kehr's Rockin' Dueling Pianos, a high energy, all request, rock 'n roll dueling pianos and sing along experience starring Donnie Kehr, will be presented every Thursday in January & February at 42WEST (514 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-239-2999 - ) from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. The night always features surprise guest stars from Broadway, Film and Television who will participate in singing the top requested song of the evening. Previous guests include, Constantine Maroulis (American Idol, Rock Of Ages), Billy Stritch, Jen Perry (Kinky Boots), John Arthur Greene (Matilda, NBC's Peter Pan). Donnie Kehr is a veteran Broadway rocker whose credits include the original Broadway cast & film of JERSEY BOYS, The Who's TOMMY, BILLY ELLIOT, and many •others. Also an accomplished musician and singer, Donnie has played dueling piano's across the country including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. He also performs with ALMOST ELTON JOHN (Craig A. Meyer) as his alter ego, Billy Joel. Donnie is the creator and founder of the annual charity concert, ROCKERS ON BROADWAY produced his 501c3 The PATH Fund. There is a $20-$40 cover (Includes a Complimentary Glass of Sparkling Wine).
NYC: A ROCKIN' MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM FOR THE 12.14 FOUNDATION
Broadway stars Marla Mindelle (Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella) and Clarke Thorell (Hairspray) and Off-Broadway star Saum Eskandani (Disaster!) are joined by several dozen children and teen performers from Newtown, CT to celebrate the launch of their World Premiere CD of A ROCKIN' Midsummer Night's Dream at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Thursday, January 8th at 7:00 pm. This critically acclaimed fresh new take on Shakespeare's classic comedy features a fantastic new rock score by Eric Svejcar with lyrics by William Shakespeare, Eric Svejcar and Michael Unger. A ROCKIN' Midsummer Night's Dream recently completed a critically acclaimed run in Newtown, CT as part of the 12.14 Foundation's summer season. This new musical adaptation was written specifically for the young performers within the Newtown community and is being preserved on a 2 disc set which will be released to coincide with this 54 Below concert. The 12.14 Foundation was created as a means of using the performing arts to help heal, inspire and promote personal development within the Newtown community in the aftermath of the tragedy of December 14th, 2012. The profits from this concert will help support The 12.14 Foundation's mission. There is a $25-$60 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
