NYC: THE TORTURE GARDEN IN ONE ACT BY SUGARLIFE

Sugarlife performs a hair-raising and hysterically funny staging of Octave Mirbeau's "The Torture Garden" with musical accompaniment by Danny Tunick and Takuya Nakamura at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Wednesday, January 7th at 9:30 pm. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: MARILYN MAYE: 7 NIGHTS OF "MARILYN BY REQUEST"

After New Year's Eve, the merry-making continues at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for seven nights between January 2nd and 10th, as Marilyn Maye launches into a run of her hard-partying "By Request" shows. Joining the preternaturally young Maye on her 15th Metropolitan Room engagement are her trio consisting of pianist/conductor Billy Stritch, bassist Tom Hubbard, and drummer Ray Marchica. "Marilyn by Request" plays Friday through Sunday, January 2nd, 3rd and 4th; and Wednesday through Sunday, January 7th through 10th. All shows are at 7:00 pm. Maye is in the midst of one of the most exciting chapters of a storied career. A nightclub mainstay, RCA recording artist and musical theatre actress in the '60s, '70s, and '80s, the "Best New Artist" Grammy nominee (1965) returned to New York in October 2006 after a 15-year absence. At the invitation of the late Donald Smith her epochal Cabaret Convention appearance segued into an unbroken string of sold-out runs at the Metropolitan Room through 2010. It is here that Maye built a new following, introducing an entirely new generation to the fun-loving performance style that once was the hallmark of large rooms and nightclubs across the country. The "By Request" shows have a hard-to-resist music charge of only a $35 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: WOMEN ON LOVE IN CONCERT AT 54 BELOW

Women on Love, a sparkling new musical in concert with music and lyrics by Katya Stanislavskaya, will light up 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Wednesday, January 7th at 9:30 pm with a wonderful cast of Broadway ladies. A bevy of New York actresses share hilarious and poignant moments from the lives and loves of contemporary women. Surviving a coffee date. Surviving laundry day. Surviving writer's block. Surviving a teenaged daughter. Surviving old age. Starring: Sarah Corey, Lianne Marie Dobbs, Amy Justman (Company, Gentlemen's Guide), Alyse Alan (Mamma Mia!), Theresa McCarthy (Titanic, Floyd Collins), Grace McLean (Natasha and Pierre, Bedbugs), Jane Pfitsch (Cabaret, Allegro), Pearl Sun (If/ Then), and Sally Wilbert (Assassins). There is a $25-$60 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
