NYC: JON WEBER: JOPLIN TO JARRETT

Jon Weber returns with his acclaimed show 'Joplin to Jarrett' to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Tuesday, January 6th at 7:00 pm. Joplin to Jarrett serves as a concise history of jazz piano with an emphasis on the earlier composers from the first half of the 20th Century. Over 100 years of music interspersed with musical excerpts with John Weber's insights and anecdotes reveal a lifetime's worth of impassioned research. Weber's extraordinary facility for recall and analysis allow him to form fascinating and unexpected connections between artists of different eras, their development and influences in jazz piano. Jazz pianist Jon Weber has recorded and toured all over the world, winning numerous honors for performance and composition - scoring extensively for television since 1987. Jon lives in New York City and hosts NPR's Piano Jazz with Jon Weber after frequently serving as guest host for Marian McPartland. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: FUTUREFEST SHOWCASE AT 54 BELOW

The popular Los Angeles showcase FUTUREFEST is coming to New York City and 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, January 6th at 7:00 pm. Presented by the Festival of New American Musicals and Open Hydrant Theater Company, the showcase spotlights rising local young talent in a celebration of the next generation of musical theatre artists. At FutureFest, high-school and college students sing songs from new musicals written by leading and rising lyricists/composers. Songs by Stephen Schwartz, Scott Alan, Ryan Scott Oliver, Jeff Thomson, Jordan Mann, Ben Toth, Chad Beguelin, Michelle Elliott, Daniel Larsen, Michael Kooman, Christopher Dimond have been showcased at this event, hosted by special celebrity guests. Past hosts have included Patrick Cassidy (Assassins), Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), Paris Barclay (Glee, DGA President), Ben Toth (Musical Director, Kristin Chenoweth, Cheyenne Jackson) and Graham Phillips (13, The Good Wife). Students are selected from a variety of high schools/colleges such as NYU, Pace University, Fordham, Columbia, Stuyvesant HS, Bronx High School of Science, Regis HS, Bronx Prep, Democracy Prep, Monsignor Farrell, Notre Dame Academy, Pelham HS, Bronx School of the Arts, and LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts. Bob Klein, Linda Shusett and Marcia Seligson (Past Producing Artistic Director of Reprise, UCLA) and Luis Cardenas and Sarah Rosenberg (Artistic Directors of Open Hydrant Theater Company) are proud and honored to bring FutureFest to New York City. NYC: AMY SPANGER AT 54 BELOW

At nineteen, Amy Spanger announced to her parents that she was moving to New York because "these legs won'5t last forever." At twenty-one she did. With a two thousand dollar loan, a shared one-bedroom in Harlem, and a job waiting tables, she made a promise to herself: "I will make it on Broadway within the next three years." Now she's ready to talk about what happened next at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, January 6th & Saturday, January 17th, both shows at 9:30 pm. In collaboration with her partner, musical whiz-kid Kris Kukul, Amy is proud to present an evening of pop, music theater, rock, country, and candid storytelling. The show will feature some of the music that put her on the map, including "Don't Stop Believing" from Rock of Ages, "Always True To You Darling In My Fashion" from Kiss Me Kate, and "Come To Your Senses" from tick, tick ... BOOM! She'll also share some glamorous and not-as-glamorous tales as she reflects on the places she's lived and people she's lived with along the great white way, including a budding schizophrenic, a pair of cocaine enthusiasts, and a couple of husbands. Ever since her break out performance as Lois/Bianca in Broadway's Tony Award-winning Kiss Me Kate, Amy has been cheered by audiences and critics alike for her star turns in shows liketick, tick ... BOOM!, The Wedding Singer, Urinetown, Elf, Rock of Ages, and Chicago. She's guest starred on Royal Pains, Ed, Law and Order: SVU, Six Feet Under, and Bored To Death. She also played the depraved drug fiend Sally in Showtime's original movie musical Reefer Madness, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to become a cult classic. Amy and Kris met at the Williamstown Theater Festival, where Amy played Gwendolyn in David Hyde Pierce's production of The Importance of Being Ernest, and Kris served as music director of the Williamstown Late Night Cabaret series. They are currently collaborating on the new work Songbird by Michael Kimmel with music by Lauren Pritchard. Together, they have curated this hour long concert designed to showcase Amy's killer pipes and self-deprecating sense of humor. There is a $30-$75 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
